WWDC 2020 How to Allow Limited Photo Access on iOS 14.
Prior to iOS13, you could either allow access to all photos or deny it completely. In iOS 14, users can give the app access to a limited number of photos instead of giving the entire photo library. For example, when I upload images to Instagram, I can now choose one of three options: Select Photos, Allow All Photos, or Don’t Allow. So, here’s how to allow limited access to photos on iOS 14.

Allow limited access to photos to apps on iOS 14
For this feature to work, you must have iOS 14. Now, when you open the application, in this case WhatsApp, you will be asked to access your photo album. You will see three options: Select Photos, Allow Access to All Photos, or Do Not Allow. To make your own choice, click on the first option, “Select Photos”. Now just select the images you like and click “Done” in the upper right corner.
You must be thinking, what if you need to add new pictures? Don’t worry, the next time you open the app, you will have two options: Choose more photos and Save current selection. Click on “Choose more photos” to make a new selection.
If you don’t see a prompt, open Settings, scroll down to the Application section, and tap Photos. At the bottom you will find the “Edit Selected Photos” item which will allow you to add or remove photos from the selected application. That’s it, you can now control the privacy of your images!
Concluding remarks
This great feature is great for privacy and third-party app access control to your photo library. This adds to the list of privacy features provided by Apple, such as approximate location sharing, recording indicator for camera and microphone, etc. Remember that permission to access photos also includes metadata such as location, camera information, etc. Well, while you’re here, here’s a quick way to remove all this metadata. That’s it for the privacy of your photos. To learn more about iOS 14, go to WWDC2020.
Before you get started, know that the choice of images is independent of the application you are using. So, you can choose a different set of images for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
