If you think you are smart enough to do without pirated Windows, then I must tell you that you are wrong. The moment you connect your computer to the Internet, Microsoft can easily tell if you are using a pirated version of Windows 7/8 or not.
This brings us to the question, why does Microsoft allow people to steal their products?
Honestly, if Microsoft doesn’t want people to use their OS for free, they would have stopped long ago. At the moment, they don’t care about privacy in developing countries like India and China. And here’s what Bill Gates said about this.
Although there are about 3 million computers sold annually in China, people don’t pay for software. But someday they will. And while they’re going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They will kind of get addicted, and then we will somehow figure out how to collect money in the next decade.

Therefore, it would be fair to say that piracy helps Windows grow its customer base.
On the other hand, even brutal piracy is morally wrong (which few of us care about) and it also has some drawbacks. For example, lack of technical support, malware vulnerabilities and annoying pop-up notifications to activate your windows.
So if you can’t afford license windows, you can try Linux distributions, which are free and pretty user-friendly these days. Or, as Mr. Gate suggests, the next time you have money, make sure you buy the paid version of Windows.
It is difficult for startups to pay for the software requirements as most of them lack funding. To address this issue, Microsoft has introduced a global program whereby software startups can have FREE access to Microsoft’s software development tools for 12 months.
