Google uses a universal calendar system that syncs your calendar data across all your devices. When the Calendar app stops syncing on a device, you cannot view newly added events on that device.

There are many reasons why Google Calendar might not sync across your devices. Your phone may not have enough space to store new calendar data. Or maybe you or someone else turned off the sync feature. We’ll show you how to fix these common Google Calendar not syncing issues.

Make sure Calendar is enabled

If your calendar has no new events, you may have selected the wrong calendar from the list. Most phones have multiple calendars and you need to choose the calendar you actually use.

  1. Start the Google Calendar app.
  2. Tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner. to open the application menu.

  1. You will see your Google calendars under your account name. Check the box for the calendar you want to use.

Enable calendar sync on your device

Most devices allow you to turn sync on and off for different apps and features. A possible reason why Google Calendar is not syncing is because calendar sync is disabled on your device.

Re-enabling this setting should fix the problem.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your Android device and tap Accounts.

  1. Select your Google account from the list on the screen.
  2. Tap the Sync Account option to view your sync settings.

Enable sync to your Google Calendar

The Google Calendar app has the ability to turn sync on and off for individual calendars. If this setting is disabled for your calendar, therefore, your Google Calendar will not sync. When enabled, this calendar syncs with Google servers.

The Calendar application has the ability to update calendars and their entries. You can use this option to update your calendars when automatic syncing is not working.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app on your phone.
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen.

  1. Click on the single Update option, and your calendars will be updated with the new event details.

Enable calendar storage on your phone

On most Android phones, you have the option to specify storage permissions for different apps. If this setting is turned off for the Calendar app, this might be why the app isn’t syncing your calendars.

To allow an app to use your phone’s storage:

  1. Launch the Settings app and tap Apps & notifications.

  1. Scroll down and select the app permission setting.

Make sure you have enough free space on your device

When you sync your calendars, new information is usually added to your calendars. This uses up your phone’s memory, so you must have enough space to store updated Google calendars on your device.

Clear Calendar app cache

Apps use cache files to provide you with the best experience for your app. However, sometimes these cache files are the reason why Google Calendar is not syncing on your device. Removing these files should fix the problem.

  1. Open the Settings app and click Apps & Notifications.
  2. Find the Calendar application in the list and tap it. If you don’t see it, click View All at the bottom to view all of your apps.

  1. Select “Storage” on the next screen to view the calendar storage options.

Reinstall the Google Calendar app on your device

If you are unlucky with any of the above methods, the last thing you can try is reinstalling the app on your device. This will force the app to rebuild its configuration files, which can fix sync issues on your device.

  1. If you’re using an iPhone, press and hold the Calendar app and select the X icon.

  1. Click Remove to remove the application from the iPhone.

  1. Reinstall the Google Calendar app from the App Store.
  2. If you have an Android device, press and hold the Calendar app and select Uninstall. If this is the only calendar app you have, you may not be able to uninstall it.
  3. Click OK on the request to uninstall the application.
  4. Launch the Google Play Store and reinstall the Google Calendar app.
