What Is Vanish Mode on Instagram 2022?

Not all messages and chats are meant to be saved. Some people are better off disappearing after you’ve finished talking. Instagram recently introduced a new feature called Vanish Mode that you can use to send self-destructing messages to other users.

Disappear mode on Instagram is similar to Snapchat, Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp and allows you to separate public conversations from private ones online. In this article, you’ll learn more about this feature, how fade mode works, and why you should use it on Instagram.

What Is Vanish Mode on Instagram?

The ability to send self-destructing messages was introduced earlier in Facebook Messenger. His appearance on Instagram was only a matter of time.

Disappear mode is disabled by default, and you need to manually enable it before enabling the disappearing messages feature. Chat messages disappear after all chat participants have seen them and after the chat is closed. Here are a few more things you need to know about Instagram’s Fade Mode:

You can only use Fade Mode in one-on-one chats. Disappear mode cannot be used in group chats with more than two people. Disappear mode is only available for people who follow each other on Instagram. It protects Instagram users from unwanted messages from strangers. When someone turns on Disappear mode in a chat, you can choose to accept or decline the invitation. This way you have complete control over what becomes private and what remains public. You will both be notified when someone takes a screenshot in Disappear Mode. Messages sent in Disappear Mode can still be reported, even if they are no longer visible. You can still block a person and report your chat with them if you don’t feel safe, even if the entire conversation was in Disappearance mode.

Why Use Vanish Mode on Instagram?

If you are concerned about the security and privacy of the data you share on Instagram, then you should use Disappear Mode.

There can be many reasons why you might want to use Fade Mode in a conversation. For example, if you’re worried about other people following your Instagram activities and browsing your chats, Fade Mode can make your life easier.

Even if you’re 100% sure that you’re the only person with access to your phone, you can keep some of the information you share on Instagram private. This could be anything from a surprise birthday party to work-related information that you want to keep private in case your account gets hacked.

Finally, if you’re a public figure yourself, such as a social media influencer, there’s information you might want to leave out of your Instagram chat history. Using Disappear Mode, you can safely launch your ideas for a new trending TikTok post from your trusted people without worrying about them becoming public before you can implement them.

How to Use Vanish Mode on Instagram

Before you can use the Vanish Mode feature, you need to enable it in Instagram Chat. Keep in mind that turning on Disappear mode in one chat doesn’t mean it will automatically turn on for every other Instagram conversation you have. Don’t forget to turn on Disappear mode for every chat you want to keep private.

You also don’t have to create a new chat to enable Fade Mode; you can turn it on in any existing Instagram chat. The instructions for turning Fade Mode on and off are the same for iOS and Android users.

How to turn on fade mode

Follow these steps to enable Fade Mode on Instagram.

Open the Instagram app and navigate to your private Instagram messages (Instagram direct messages) by selecting the message icon in the top right corner of the screen. In the list of chats, select the conversation in which you want to enable Disappear mode. In a chat window, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and release your finger to enable Fade Mode.

Instead of the normal chat thread, you should see the message “You have enabled disappear mode” in the conversation. When you first turn on Fade Mode, Instagram will change the theme to Dark and release some Shush emoji to show that you are currently using the app in Fade Mode.

The other user will receive a notification with your request to enter Disappear Mode, which they can accept or decline. You will also see a small dotted circle next to their name in the chat list, which indicates that Disappear mode is enabled in that chat.

If you’re having trouble turning on Fade in, make sure you’re on the latest version of Instagram and update if necessary, then try the instructions above again.

How to turn to Fade out

If after a while you decide to turn off Fade Mode in Instagram Chat, here’s how to do it.

Open an Instagram chat that has Fade Mode enabled. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen until the message “Release to turn Fade Mode off” appears. Then release your finger.

You will see your regular chat thread appear along with messages sent in disappearing mode. After you close the chat, any Vanish Mode messages you see will disappear.

You can then send a new message to this chat to make sure the Disappear mode is disabled.

Add an Extra Level of Privacy to Your Chatting

If you’re worried about keeping your personal information private and don’t trust Instagram with it, you can also try using one of the encrypted chat apps. They will make sure that any of your personal and confidential data remains away from prying eyes.
