Everything You Need to Know About Pokemon Legends: Arceus. What Is the Pokemon Legends: Arceus Story?.
Pokémon games were first introduced to 3D graphics on Nintendo 3DS handheld systems, giving fans an unforgettable experience. Now, with the Nintendo Switch, the Pokemon series includes even more 3D games, including the newest addition to Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
This game from the main Pokemon series completely redefined the typical Pokemon gameplay and allows players to learn more about the history of the fictional world that surrounds the series. It also features the legendary Pokemon Arsey, the game’s namesake. It was first introduced in the Diamond and Pearl Pokémon games, which are currently being remade.
So what is the essence of this new game? Below you will find information on the game’s history, gameplay, and more.
What Is the Pokemon Legends: Arceus Story?
This Pokémon game takes place in Hisui, the fourth region in the Pokémon history timeline known as Sinnoh. The game allows you to explore this area before humans and Pokémon worked together.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you play as part of Team Galaxy, a research group that researches and catalogs Pokemon. You will try to complete the first-ever Pokédex by exploring Hisui and discovering its Pokémon inhabitants.
The Galaxy team is based in Jubilif Village, where you will spend most of your time preparing for new missions, shopping, or visiting the Trading Post to trade Pokémon with others.
What Is Gameplay Like in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?
Nintendo confirmed during the Pokemon Presents livestream that this new Pokemon game will be open-world, meaning you can explore the area any way you like. Missions from Team Galaxy will guide you through the game’s storyline, but you can explore the Hisui region on your own.
If that’s not different enough from the old Pokémon games, then the way you meet Pokémon has changed as well. If you want to fight a Pokémon, you can throw the Pokémon at the Poké Ball and the battle will begin. There won’t be a separate battle screen, like in previous games. Instead, you will immediately engage in combat in the environment.
However, the combat system is still very similar. You choose which movement your Pokémon should perform, or you can use an item, run away, or switch Pokémon. One of the differences in battles is that you can now perform strong or flexible versions of any move. Using the strong version of the movement will increase its power while decreasing its speed, while using the movement as agile will do the opposite. This adds a new level of strategy development during battles.
The sequence of battles will not be the same either. In previous games, each Pokémon took turns making one move at a time. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the characteristics of each Pokemon will determine how many moves they can take at a time.
You will be able to catch any Pokemon in the game that you come across, and this is how you will top up the in-game Pokedex. To catch a Pokemon, you can weaken it in combat and then throw a Pokeball at it, just like in previous games.
Are There Any New Pokemon?
As with any new Pokémon game, players will want to know what new Pokémon to expect. Since Pokemon Legends: Arceus takes place in a region already covered in previous games, there aren’t many new Pokemon. However, there are a few new faces that you can expect.
The first is the Serpentine Deer, a standard deer-like psychic type. It evolves from Pokemon Stantler, a Pokemon already featured in Gen 2 Pokemon games, but it’s a completely new evolution.
The next new Pokémon is Basculegion, an aquatic / ghost type. It is a large fish-like Pokemon that descended from another already well-known Pokemon, Baskulin, from the fifth generation.
There are also several new regional Pokemon Growlithe and Braviary forms. They are slightly different from previously known forms. The Hisui braviar is the psychic / flying type, while the past form is the normal / flying type. Hisuian Growlith is similar to him in that his form is of the fire / stone type and the original growlith was only a fire type.
If you’re interested in Starter Pokémon, the developers have done something never seen before by including Starter Pokémon from three different generations. Thus, you can choose from the seventh generation Roulet, the second generation Sindaquil, or the fifth generation Oshawott.
Beyond that, you can expect to see the Pokemon you already know that were previously featured in games for the Sinnoh region, Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
A Brand-New Pokemon Journey
Pokemon Legends: Arceus provides both longtime Pokemon fans and newcomers with a unique experience in the series of games. With so many new gameplay elements, it will be interesting to see how they work in the game.
Many have compared this new take on Pokémon to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is quite apt, open-world style, graphic design, and exploration-focused storytelling. However, this is definitely a Pokemon game as the developers have stayed true to some of the more important aspects of the series that keep fans coming back for each new generation.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus launches on the Nintendo Switch system on January 28, 2022.
