Sonic Update Manager is not even complete software; it is an add-on application or service that works with the Sonic RecordNow software. Sonic RecordNow lets you create CDs and DVDs, so you don’t have to delete them from your computer. However, you may notice that every time you start your computer, you get a lovely message from the Sonic Update Manager to enter the Sonic CD, which you do not have since Dell did not provide it to you, and then click the Cancel button only seems to piss off the software even more, because it appears over and over and won’t go anywhere! How annoying!

There are several ways to fix Sonic Update Manager related problems and I will go over them here one by one. The first and easiest way, if possible, is to go to Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. Search for Sonic Update Manager and if you’re lucky you can simply hit Uninstall to get rid of it.
Remember, don’t get rid of Sonic RecordNow as this is the software you use to burn CDs and DVDs. The second way is to disable the Sonic Update service, which starts when the computer starts up. You can do this by going to Start, clicking Run, typing MSCONFIG, and pressing Enter.
Then click the “Startup tab, and you will see a list of all the processes that start when your computer boots. You can uncheck any process to prevent it from loading during boot. For Sonic software, you want to find any startup item named stray, or that has the words Sonic Update Manager or Update Manager in the command path or location.
Also, if you see is spam or issch, uncheck them as they are also the culprit behind this problem. You can also see something called “ UpdateService “or” InstallShield “in the command column, be sure to uncheck them only if the command path contains Sonic somewhere. If you see that the path leads to the Windows system directory, for example, C: Windows System32, do not clear the checkbox, as it can make your system unstable.
