In the past, transferring an account from one computer to another was a problem. If you have programs with settings stored in your Windows user profile, you cannot just copy the user folder from one computer to another – of course, you can copy pictures and videos, but what about the program settings, Internet favorites and saved username / passwords?
In Windows 7, you can move your computer account profile, including documents, music, pictures, email, and more importantly, program settings such as Windows Live account configuration using Windows Easy Transfer.
To access the tool, open the list of programs under Accessories System Tools Windows Easy Transfer:
A wizard-driven tool will open. First select the type of media where you want to temporarily save the image file. You can transfer files and settings using a network share, removable media such as CD / DVD, or an external hard drive.

Both computers must support your chosen transfer method. For example, if you are burning data to CD or DVD, the destination computer must also have a CD or DVD drive. If you choose to transfer data over a network, both computers must be connected to the same network.
The tool also supports Easy Transfer Cable, which is a dedicated USB connection cable that can connect two computers together:
Select the users you want to export from your old computer. You can select specific types of files and folders. Windows Easy Transfer does not transfer installed applications.
Follow the instructions in the wizard and you will create an image file for easy transfer. This is a single file with all documents and settings for the user accounts you have selected.
On a new Windows 7 computer, double-click this file to start the import process. The Easy Transfer wizard will open with steps to help you import the contents of the file. After you have imported the file, the old accounts files will be available in your current account.
If you are using Windows XP and want to upgrade to Windows 7, you can create a simple portable file using this version of Windows Easy Transfer:

If you are using Vista, this software is already built into Windows Vista, so there is no need to install it on a Windows Vista PC.
