Tips & Tricks For Apple Messages That You Might Not Know About.
Apple’s iOS is one of the most used on millions of devices in the world, but you’d be surprised to find out how many people who have it hardly know or even use all of its features.
However, there are many interesting tricks that only a few of the millions of users know about. Some are hidden away in Apple Messages, so you can do more than just send texts, pictures, voice and video messages. With the introduction of the iMessage apps, Apple has also paved the way for even more widespread use of iOS 10 for iPhone and iPad users.
While we wait for the release date of iOS 13, which has some exciting feature titles, you can spend a little more time exploring your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 so you can gauge what’s coming in the new version.
Here are some tips and tricks for dealing with Apple messaging that you might not have known about. If you’ve seen or heard of them but don’t know how they are used, read on to find out more.
Add effects to your messages
You can spice up your conversations by adding personality to your messages using camera effects, bubble effects, full screen animations, back tap and more.
Bubble Effects
With their help, you can animate message bubbles using different expressions.

- To add these effects, open a new message or an existing conversation and enter your message or insert a photo.
- Press and hold the submit button and tap the bubble tap at the top. Review and apply the effect you want, then click the Submit button to the right of the selected effect.
Full Screen Effects
This exciting feature brings the screen to life by adding confetti, fireworks, balloons, spotlights, echoes, lasers, giant love hearts, and many more effects.
- Open messages and create a new message or an existing conversation. Enter your message, then press and hold the Send button and tap Screen.
- Swipe left to see various full screen effects. Select the one you want and click “Submit”.
Tapback
If you want to reply to a message with some cool facial expression like a heart or a thumb up, you can use Tapback.
- Open a conversation in the Messages app and double-tap the photo or pop-up message you want to reply to.
- Select “Answer”.
Handwritten Letters
To personalize your messages, you can add a note in your own handwriting. The recipient will see it come to life, as if it were written right in front of him.
- Open Messages and create a new message or an existing conversation and turn iPhone on its side.
- Write your own message or select an option at the bottom of the screen.
- To start over, click Clear or Cancel, and then click Done to send the message.
- To view the effects added to the message, click the Play button.
Send or share your location
If you go to Settings and then click on your name at the top, you will be taken to a screen below where you will see an option to Share my location. This will allow you to see which family and friends you are currently sharing your location with. You can also disable it globally here.
Plus, you can share your location directly from the Messages app without opening Maps or Find Friends.
- Open a conversation and tap the contact’s name at the top, then tap the “i” or information icon. Click “Send my current location” and the recipient will see it on the map.
- Or click Share my location and choose how long you want to share your location (for example, hour, until the end of the day), or indefinitely .
Camera Effects: Animoji and Memoji
In iOS 12, you can use camera effects to spice up your conversation by sharing photos or videos with Animoji, Memoji, fun stickers, text and filters, and more.
Animoji use your voice and reflect your facial expression by displaying your face with 3D emoji. You can project your voice through an animated monkey, a singing panda, an alien, a stinging fox, or even a tyrannosaurus. On the other hand, Memojis allow you to create 3D avatars of yourself – it’s more like adding your alter ego to Messages and FaceTime.
This feature is integrated into the iMessage apps and you can access it by clicking the App button, selecting your Animoji or Memoji avatar, recording and sending it to the recipient. You can add multiple effects to your photo or video.
Tap Done to add a personal message before sending the photo or video. If you don’t want to send it, click Cancel or the X in the upper right corner of the photo.
You need an iPhone X or later to use this feature.
Send group messages
If you are familiar with using WhatsApp groups, it will be easier for you to use group messages on your iOS device. Here, you can also create a group, give it a name, add or remove members to it, turn off notifications, and even leave the group.
You can send group messages of three types: group iMessage, MMS and SMS. The Messages app will choose the type of group message to send, depending on whether the message is iMessage or SMS / MMS.
You can also reply to iMessage group texts using Tapback, among other elements.
Hide Alerts
Notifications can be annoying, but you can stop them using the Hide Alerts feature in iOS. Open the Messages app, swipe left on the message or conversation you want to mute, and tap Hide Alerts.
A crescent or moon will appear next to a message or conversation when Hide alerts is enabled. However, it only stops notifications for that particular conversation, not from your device. All other messages and notifications for your device will continue to appear on the lock screen.
You can also turn off group text using the Hide Alerts feature by clicking the “i” (info) icon at the top of the group text and enabling Hide Alerts.
