There Is a Strikethrough Option in Gmail, but It’s Limited.
Strikethrough (or strikethrough) text means the words are incorrect. They are often represented by words with a horizontal line in the center. Something like this .
However, most social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and even Gmail (a few months ago) don’t offer any built-in ways to add strikethrough text. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to add strikethrough text in Gmail. Here’s how.
Option 1. Use your own editor
Since 2019, Gmail initially offers strikethrough text. It’s a little hidden in the settings though. To use this option, first select the text you want to strikethrough in the Gmail compose window. Then click the More Formatting button at the bottom (bold A with underscore), a new line of formatting options will appear. On the very right side you will see a dropdown arrow, click on it and the second option from the top should be strikethrough.
Since this feature is now built in, you don’t need to rely on external sites or browser as it should work for all browsers (tested in Chrome and Safari on Mac). Unfortunately, it didn’t work in mobile version of Gmail.
Option 2. Use keyboard shortcuts.
While there is one of its own, I prefer to use keyboard shortcuts to toggle strikethrough. Much faster this way. Although it only works in Chrome browser.
Select the text and use the following keyboard shortcut to toggle strikethrough. Windows: Alt + Shift + 5 Mac: Cmd + Shift + x
Option 3. Use an external editor
While using an external editor isn’t as fast as a keyboard shortcut, it does give you many markup editors that Gmail doesn’t have. Just copy and paste your email into the CKeditor demo and format it however you want. Then copy the final text into Gmail – the formatting will remain unchanged. In addition, since this is a web application, it works in a mobile browser as well.
