From multiple choice geography quizzes to more interactive world maps with Google Street View, we’ve put together a list of great online geography games that will quickly turn you into a geography expert.
1. Worldle
The release of the viral word game Wordle spawned an avalanche of other daily puzzle-inspired games, including Worldle. In this game, you have six attempts to guess the correct country or territory from its shape. For each attempt, Worldle will tell you how far your guess is from the target country in kilometers and a percentage that gets higher the closer you get to the correct answer.
Like Wordle, a new game is available every day and there is no need to install an app. Access Worldle in any web browser.
2. Globle
Globle will really test your knowledge of geography. Guess a new mysterious country every day. You won’t get any clues to start with, but every wrong guess will appear on a globe. “The hotter the color, the closer you are to the answer.”
Like Wordle, it will tell you how far you think the border of the mysterious country is. Play it every day and soon you will be familiar with all the countries of the world.
3. Citydle
Sasha Slutsker created Citydle. She says, “It’s a daily city-guessing game, similar to Wordle.” You will immediately notice the similarity. First guess the city. 1 – If your guess turns gray, your answer is in the wrong country or continent. 2 – If your guess turns orange, you’ll know you got the correct continent but the wrong country. 3 – If your answer is yellow, the country is correct, but the city you guessed is incorrect. The guess that turns green is correct.
For each attempt, Citydle will also tell you how different your answer is from the correct one. We found this to be one of the hardest geography games in the world.
4. Maphio
Entrepreneur Simon Sander came up with Maphio after playing – you guessed it – Wordle. When we asked what inspired him to create Maphio, he said he asked himself, “What if we take inspiration from Wordle and plug in images from all over the world, and instead of people guessing words, they guess places?” Soon the interactive game Maphio was born.
The correct answer could be anywhere on the world map. You find clues as you move around. You don’t need to know the name of the country – just click on the map to select a place to guess. A new game is available every day.
5. GeoGuessr
GeoGuessr is one of the most popular free online geography games with over 30 million users worldwide. You will be taken to the street view panorama. View the scene or walk around to find clues that will help you figure out where you are and then guess your location on the map. You can be anywhere from South America to Oceania!
One nice feature is that you can choose from a category like North America or Famous Places. The Geoguessr interface is sleek and polished, and in addition to a browser version, it’s available for iPhone and Android. Or try GeoGuess, an open source alternative you can host.

9. Carmen Sandiego Games

The website has a great Resources section with perfect activities for high school students. In addition, for teachers, Google Expeditions allows the teacher to be a guide for students to explore the area using virtual reality.

JetPunk is another quiz site that has a variety of geography quizzes. We especially liked the quiz “Countries of the world with a blank map”, where you need to name all the countries of the world. When you name a country, it appears on the map and in the list. You only have fifteen minutes to think about 196 countries.
11. Posio
