How do we know which Adblocker is the best?
We cannot test all the ad blockers available, so we narrowed the list down to 6. To do this, we collected the number of downloads, the number of reviews, and an average rating of 5 stars for ad blockers from Firefox add-ons. and Chrome Web Store extension sites.
We then used our Review Factor formula to show us which ad blockers were possibly the best. The maximum possible review rate is 100. This was done to remove the popular effect of people choosing the most downloaded ad blocker with good star ratings.
Review Factor = ((Reviews / Downloads) x Average Rating) x 100
After the first six, the view factor dropped sharply, so including anything other than that would be useless. Then there was testing.
Below is our testing methodology:
- Perform a clean install of Chrome and Firefox
- Install one ad blocker with default settings.
- Test using the canyoublockit.com and adblock-tester.com sites.
- Calculate the test average using:
Test Average = (CanYouBlockIt Extreme Avg + Adblock Tester Avg) / 2 - Remove the ad blocker.
- Clear your browser cache and restart your browser to make sure it’s like new before performing steps 2-7 on the next ad blocker tested.
- Calculate your total score. out of 100.
Overall Score = (Review Factor + Test Average) / 2
