The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

Posted on October 6, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

Right from the start, the most important aspect of a good pair of headphones is comfort. You need to make sure they are comfortable for you. For me personally, the headphones I use have excellent sound quality, but since I wear glasses, my discomfort increases as I continue to wear them.

The headphones I picked for this list are used by professional musicians and gamers and are also some of my personal favorites.

Often times, if headphones are good for music, they are usually good for gaming too. Without further ado, let’s get down to business!

Sol Republic Master Tracks X3

Weight: 1.1 lbs. Dimensions: 8 x 3.3 x 6.8 inches Frequency Response: (500 Hz – 3 kHz)

The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

Sol is ideal for those on a budget. Sound quality comparable to Beats (by Dre). It has very deep bass and clear treble.

Pros: The headband is very comfortable and VERY durable. You can stretch them completely and they will return to shape. The sound quality is nearly perfect and the speakers, headband, and wires are interchangeable, so you can develop your own style.

Cons: The wires that came with the headphones seem a little cheap and I had to replace them after a few months of casual use. The speakers comfortably cover my ears when I am without glasses. In glasses after several hours of use I have a headache on the sides.

Audio-Technica ATH-ADG1X Open Air HD Gaming Headset

Weight: 0.63 lbs. Frequency Response: 5-35,000 Hz

The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

These are very powerful and popular headphones, especially for gaming. They are lightweight and durable with very comfortable ear pads. For a higher price, this might be a good option for those who play frequently.

This pair does not have noise canceling, so people around you can hear the sound from the headphones and you can hear them. This may not be the best option for late night gaming.

Pros: The ear pads are very comfortable for extended use. The microphone works fine.

Cons: They are not noise canceling. The microphone is not removable.

HyperX HX-HSCF-BK / AM Cloud Flight Wireless Gaming Headset

Weight: 0.69 lbs. Dimensions: 7.5 x 3.4 x 7.4 inches Frequency response: 15-25,000 Hz

The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

This wireless headset, while slightly less powerful than previous models, makes up for this in many ways. 30 hours of battery life [with LED off] gives this extremely comfortable pair a slight edge over Audio-Technica Open Airs. [Used by a pro: Shroud]

Pros: One of the most comfortable couples. Great sound quality. The microphone is removable. Comes with matching cables for most gaming and music connections. Works well with PC and PS4.

Cons: Microphone quality is a bit muffled, external microphone may be needed. When the light is on, the battery will last for 13 hours. No surround sound, stereo only.

Logitech G433 7.1 Wired Gaming Headset

Weight: 0.23 lbs. Dimensions: 2.7 x 1.7 x 4.9 inches Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz

The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

This wired headset is the lite version of HyperX. Several advantages of this pair: the microphone quality is significantly better, it comes with a spare set of pads (which are more comfortable than the original ones), and it works on any computer (Mac or PC) and any console. [Used by a pro player: TSM_Myth]

Pros: much cheaper than previous pairs. A light weight. Replaceable ear pads of different qualities (soft leather versus standard leather). High quality detachable microphone. 2.0 meter extension cable.

Cons: 7.1 surround sound works only on computers, only stereo sound through set-top boxes. Bass is not heard on mobile phones.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Studio Headphones

Weight: 1.3 lbs. Dimensions: 8.7 x 4.7 x 9.1 inches Frequency response: 5-35,000 kHz

The 5 Best Over-Ear Headphones for Gaming and Music

Our heaviest headset is also my favorite. They feel high quality and the frequency response is unmatched. While this pair requires an amplifier to reproduce high quality sound, it is a small price to pay for better sound quality. [Used by a pro: Ninja]

Pros: Better sound quality in any pair of headphones. Best for music and game editing. Very convenient for long-term use, even with glasses. Open back design adds comfort.

Cons: Although the sound quality is higher, an additional amplifier is required to reproduce higher sound levels. A non-detachable cable, if the cable breaks, the headphones are useless.

Conclusion

There are many options available when it comes to in-ear headphones, but we try to keep the lists short to make it easier to decide.

We also tried to narrow down the list by focusing on games and music. Hope you find what you need. Enjoy!
