The 10 Best Android Phones for 2019.
Since most Android smartphone manufacturers, especially the top manufacturers, update their devices annually and at different times throughout the year, compiling an up-to-date comparison of the top models is a bit of juggling.
As I write this, for example, Samsung is starting to ship the Galaxy S10 and S10 +, two of their best (or flagship) phones that will launch on March 8, 2019, which means they will be available shortly before this article is published.
Plus, prices and operating system upgrades change constantly throughout the year, so you also need to consider how much each phone costs and what operating system it comes with. I have to choose something, right?
So, to balance the playing field, for pricing information, I’ve decided to use Amazon‘s current price when I write about each individual model. Wherever you buy your phone, it will be slightly higher or lower, and carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) offer ever-changing special offers when you sign up for the service.
For the operating system (OS) installed on each device, Android 9 (or Pie) is currently available for most models, so the OS listed is the highest version available, again at the time I write about each specific device.
Since the first rollout of the next version of Android won’t take place until August or so, and then only to Google Pixel devices at the beginning, those devices currently running Android 9 will be doing this for some time. Yes, there will be incremental updates, but for the most part the OS version is agreed – for now.
What are the advantages of Android?
There are several reasons Android is the predominant smartphone operating system, including the fact that unless you want to settle for an older model, all Apple iPhones are expensive and expensive.
Several Android devices are available for under $ 400; I’ve included a couple in this review and a few in the $ 500 range. All the latest iPhones, as good as they are, cost or exceed $ 1000.
More importantly, Android is a more versatile OS with more features and personalization options. For example, most Android devices support expanding storage via microSD cards, these days up to 512GB or more, whereas with the iPhone, you’re stuck with what’s on your phone.
If you run out of memory, you’ll have to delete items or move them from and to your device. Yes, you can store more data in the cloud, but it’s not as convenient as storing it directly on your phone.
From the point of view of techies and developers, Android is a much more open operating system, which means that users, app developers, and phone manufacturers have much more control at the OS level. This gives you a lot more freedom, allowing you, the developers and phone makers, to be more creative.
On the other hand, Apple’s iOS is a closed OS. Apple controls just about everything it has historically had, from the first Mac to the iPhone X. While this is more conducive to quality control than Google’s approach, it also limits.
Phones sizes and prices
Modern phones are as powerful as some desktop computers, and the displays on some high-end flagships are incredibly gorgeous. Modern mobile devices come with massive amounts of storage and RAM, up to 1 TB and 12 GB respectively, and are incredibly fast.
Many people, especially the younger generation, only use their phones as their sole computing and entertainment devices. However, if all you need is to make calls and send text messages, you don’t need all that processing power and ready-made displays.
However, nowadays, most people browse the web on their phones for at least some time, and also take and share photos. The following list of the 10 best Android devices includes a gambit, ranging from inexpensive and adequate to expensive and elegant – some would even say they are generous.
And that looks like a good place to make a disclaimer. The phones in the table below are arranged strangely, due to the fact that I could not fit them all into one table, but had to split it. They are not sorted in a specific order.
The latest $ 1,000 Samsung Galaxy S10 +, if that’s exactly what you need, might be the best for you, or perhaps the $ 170 Motorola Moto G6 Play or the $ 360 LG G6 may come with everything you need to how you use your smartphone.
In other words, while I’m comparing features here, these phones all made the top 10 list and are therefore strong products for the user base each one serves. The very best relates to the application.
Where to buy your Android device
Once upon a time, everyone got their phones through their wireless carrier, which limited us to a specific service provider – at least for the duration of the contract or until the phone was paid for.
However, many of us these days buy “unlocked” phones from various retail and wholesale stores such as Amazon or Best Buy. (I bought my last phone in an unopened box, brand new, on eBay.)
The point is that you no longer need to tie yourself to a specific provider. In any case, with Android phones, you just need to take the SIM card from the current device and insert it into the new one.
In most cases, as long as the phone is unlocked, it will be ready to use your services. Then you can use the device switching app to move all your contacts, media files and other data to your new phone. (Samsung calls this feature Smart Switch, for example.)
Either way, you are now free to shop, find a mobile device at the lowest price, with or without funding, and the only real link between you and your service provider is your monthly bill. If Verizon or someone else isn’t doing the right things, switching to a new carrier is relatively easy.

Pros: Fast. True, unmodified Android. Fastest OS updates. Easy one-handed operation. Voice activated Google Assistant. Gorgeous OLED display. Sharp cameras with above average artificial intelligence, low light, zoom and other features.
Cons: No memory expansion slot and headphone jack.
Google’s flagship Pixel 3 smartphone is compact, making it ideal for solo work. It is packed with features and comes in two storage configurations, 64GB and 128GB. If you like big phones with big screens, Google also offers the Pixel 3 XL at a slightly higher price.
Instead of the Pixel 3’s standard 5.5-inch 2160-by-1080-pixel display, the XL’s display is 6.3-inches with a 2960-by-1440-pixel resolution, which provides significantly more room to view, but makes the phone significantly larger and heavier, not to mention to reduce the possibility of one-handed use, especially for those with smaller gloves.
The Pixel 3 comes in four colors: black, white, pink, and non-pink, which is cool or pale pink, while the XL version is available in black, white, and pink. The downside to the Pixel is that, like Apple phones, it doesn’t support expanding storage via microSD cards (or other means) and doesn’t have a headphone jack.
It does, however, support Pixel Buds (headphones) via the USB-C charging port on the bottom edge, which means you can’t charge your phone and listen to music at the same time – unless you’re wirelessly charging it, of course. or use wireless (Bluetooth) headphones.
Google Active Edge, when you squeeze the sides of your phone, it launches Google Assistant. You can’t program Active Edge to launch other apps, although you can also squeeze it to turn off alarms, incoming calls, notifications, and timers.
Like most phones in this price range, the Pixel 3 is IP68 water and dust resistant and has one of the most impressive camera sets in the business, which includes a 12.2MP rear camera and dual 8MP front-facing selfie cameras.
Amazon users gave it an average rating of less than 3.5, and the protests against the short battery life and lack of storage expansion are valid complaints. Nothing is perfect, and like many other devices in this roundup, the Pixel 3 is a terrific phone despite some glaring flaws.
LG-G6
Basic information:
Pros: Easy one-handed operation. Brilliant HDR display. Sharp cameras with dual rear panel. Expandable microSD card up to 2TB. Feels durable.
Cons: Sluggish. A bit dull screen. Collects stains and fingerprints. Lacks dual speakers.
LG took two spots on this top 10 list: the mid-tier LG-G6 and the higher-tier LG-V40 ThinQ. What attracts many users in the first is its low price; although as I wrote this, prices were all over the place – between $ 350 and $ 500, with the best price being on Amazon
The LG-G6 has most of the higher-end flagship features, including IP68 water and dust resistance, and a MIL-STD-810G ruggedness rating, which means it can withstand a 6-foot drop onto hard surfaces within reason, of course.
Like the Pixel 3, the LG-G6 is covered in glass and this phone only comes in black and is more visible with smudges and fingerprints than some of its rival models. Compared to other models, the G6 is slightly stretched with a 2.1 screen aspect ratio, which can make apps not designed to display this unusual shape look odd.
Also, unlike some modern phones, it doesn’t have dual (stereo) or quad (surround), although you do have a headphone jack on the top edge and an SD card slot on the right edge. You can expand your storage up to 2TB, which is the maximum amount of storage supported by any phone, except of course other LG models including the V40 ThinQ.
Shoppers at Amazon gave the phone a 4.2 out of 5, praising its HDR screen and camera quality, but not very impressed with its relatively short battery life. Either way, the LG-G6 is an amazing phone and, given its sub-average price, excellent quality.
LG V40 ThinQ
Basics:
Pros: Compact form. Exceptional OLED display. The triple rear cameras take three different angles, while the dual front cameras take wide selfies. MicroSD card supports up to 2TB. Great sound and audio software.
Cons: You cannot reassign the Google Assistant button. Does not support Android 9. Low Resolution Front Camera
Looking at devices like the LG V40 ThinQ, it’s hard to imagine – even for those of us who have lived on it – a time when all mobile phones could make and receive calls. The V40 has it all, including three rear cameras that provide a wide range of photography options such as simultaneous wide-angle, close-ups and standard shots, then combining them to create an animated GIF (not to mention superb traditional shots).
You also get a headphone jack with a quad-core Hi-Fi DAC, which with the right audiophile-quality headphones delivers arguably the best audio quality in the business, as well as Bluetooth 5 for listening to more than one audio device at the same time.
The audio software is also rich in features, and the speaker at the bottom edge has a resonance chamber, giving it a boombox effect that delivers better sound than you would expect from a single speaker phone.
As for the dual front cameras, although they are slightly low resolution, they allow you to shoot wide-angle selfies, making room for friends or capturing most of the area around you. Like most other phones in its class, the V40 is water and dust resistant, and it meets the MIL-STD-810G standard, which means it passed the drop test of about 6 feet and survived.
The downside is that at the time of this writing, the V40 still hasn’t been updated to Android 9. LG is reporting that the new OS will launch in the first quarter, which means the company is running out of time. Like its younger brother, the G6, the V40 has a glass back for wireless charging, a beautiful OLED screen, and many features that have very little to do with making calls or texting. Amazon users put the V40 3.9 out of 5 for the screen and cameras.
Motorola Moto G6 Play
Basic information:
Pros: cost-effective. 12 hours of battery life. Strong feature set. High performance.
Cons: So-so cameras. So-so screen. No wireless charging. Android 9 is not yet available.
There are several Android devices on the budget, including several from Motorola, but the most impressive was the Moto G6 Play. It has a battery that is the same size (4000mAh) as Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 9, which delivers a whopping 12 hours of battery life (although the Note 9 lasts over 14 hours), and its cameras, although certainly not the best at industry. shoot very respectable photos.
You get a headphone jack and microSD card support up to 256GB, which lets you expand your storage from 32GB to 288GB – all for less than $ 200.
Of course, compared to the flagship models in this roundup, including Motorola’s own V40 ThinQ, the Moto G6’s specs are a little chilly. The 5.7-inch, 1,440-by-720-pixel display is nowhere near as crisp as the ultra-high-resolution OLED and AMOLED screens in the more expensive models, and the Moto G6 won’t see an Android 9 update until sometime in Q2 2019. , which means that the year may be over and Android is on its way to a version. 10 or Android Q by then. However, this is a great phone for its price.
The Moto G6 only comes in Deep Indigo color (which looks more like black than anything else). One hundred Amazon buyers gave it a 4.1 out of 5, obviously touting its low price, battery life and unchanged stock Android.
OnePlus 6T
Basic information:
Pros: Reasonably priced. Decent cameras. Quick. Beautiful AMOLED screen.
Cons: Not enough memory expansion. There is no headphone jack. No wireless charging. No waterproofing.
While there are multiple versions (6GB RAM / 128GB storage, 8GB / 128GB, and 8GB / 256GB) at slightly different prices, OnePlus only makes one phone, currently the 6T. It costs less than many of the flagship models reviewed here, but you are sacrificing a lot to save money too.
However, you get the same Snapdragon 845 processor found in modern phones, sensible but not the most efficient cameras, a very attractive large 6.4-inch AMOLED display (but with a relatively low resolution), decent battery life. and an in-display fingerprint reader for authentication without turning the phone over.
You ditch wireless charging, water and dust resistance, a headphone jack (although there is a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box, but no headphones) and a microSD card slot.
On the other hand, OnePlus phones are getting Android updates quickly with very little changes to the stock OS, and the 6T is just as fast or faster than phones that cost hundreds of dollars more. It’s dual (16MP / 20MP) and 16MP front cameras – one of the highest resolutions in the industry and it comes in matte or glossy black.
The 6T made it to this list for its speed and screen size for its price, although the LG-G6 is better in terms of functionality. Only a handful of Amazon shoppers have looked at this phone, and in between, the 6T earned 4 out of 5 stars, the only complaint being the accuracy of the fingerprint sensor. Otherwise, the OnePlus 6T is a good price.
Samsung Galaxy S9 +
Basic information:
Pros: Reasonably priced. Dual rear cameras with wide-angle grip and low light shooting. Quick. Stunning AMOLED screen look. Expandable storage up to 768 GB. Strong sound.
Cons: Silly AR Emoji.
I included the Samsung Galaxy S9 + in this review because now that the Galaxy S10 and S10 + have been released (yesterday as I write this), the S9 + has become an amazing value. You get the same device, for less money, minus a few, mostly capacity upgrades.
Currently, choosing the S9 + will save you $ 260 over the S10 and $ 360 over the S10 +. Of course, if you want triple cameras, a faster processor, an even higher resolution screen, and more, then by all means skip this roundup and move on to the Galaxy S10 and S10 + below in this roundup. These are fantastic devices, no doubt, but if you don’t want to and won’t be using all the latest bells and whistles, the S9 + is a great alternative.
It comes with Samsung’s gorgeous 6.2-inch Infinity AMOLED screen, dual rear cameras, Dolby Atmos sound, 10 hours battery or more, three different RAM sizes from 64GB to 256GB, and expandable via card microSD up to 512 GB.
You also get a decent set of headphones in the box, IP68 water and dust resistance, loud and powerful dual stereo speakers – the list goes on … And more …
The point is, it’s a great phone at this price point. A few days ago, you would have paid at least $ 250 more for the S9 +. More than 1,500 Amazon users rated the Galaxy S9 + 4.1 out of 5 stars, mainly for the cameras and AMOLED screen. Whatever one may say, this is a great phone.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Basic information:
Pros: Dual rear cameras with wide-angle and low-light shooting, and impressive AI. Long battery life. Quick. Stunning AMOLED screen. Storage expandable up to 1 TB. Dolby Atmos audio. S Pen Note with Bluetooth LE. Excellent performance.
Cons: Silly AR Emoji. The fingerprint reader is too close to the camera.
The flagship Samsung Note 9 (you can see the full Note 9 review here), the phablet, next to the iPhone X, is one of the most impressive smartphones on the market. It’s called the Note, of course, because of the S Pen, which, in this iteration, now supports Bluetooth LE, allowing the stylus to be used as a remote control for a tablet.
By default, the S Pen controls the camera, but it can be reassigned to any app that supports the S Pen. This includes Android Gallery, Microsoft PowerPoint, and several other applications.
The Note 9 has similar specs to the S9 +, including dual rear cameras and a Super AMOLED display, only this time Samsung has provided software and other updates that make the cameras more accurate and the screen brighter and capable of displaying a wider range of colors.
Additionally, the Note 9’s screen is slightly larger than the S9 + ‘s display, and the former is available in storage capacities up to 512GB, which is double the slightly smaller S9 +.
In other words, you can expand the Note 9’s storage capacity up to 1TB. (As you’ll see in the upcoming S10 + review, it’s available with 1TB built-in. The Note 10, which arrives later this year, will likely have a 1TB variant as well, but like the S10 +, it didn’t win cheap.)
Four more about the Note 9, follow the link above for a full review of this impressive device. It is available in Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue, Cloud Silver and Midnight Black. Amazon shoppers give it a 4.2 out of 5 when touting the S Pen, screen, and sound quality. The Galaxy Note series has always been an impressive brand.
Samsung Galaxy S10
Basic information:
Pros: Triple rear camera with wide-angle and low-light shooting, and impressive AI. Long battery life. Fastest Snapdragon processor. Superb dynamic AMOLED screen. Expandable storage up to 768 GB. Impressive Dolby Atmos sound. Also available in S10e and S10 5G versions.
Cons: Expensive. Fingerprint reader next to cameras.
The Galaxy S10 is essentially an S9 on steroids. Everything – cameras (now triple rear arrows and a 10MP front-facing lens), dynamic AMOLED display, RAM, battery capacity (now 3,500mAh), as well as storage capacity and available sizes – have been updated.
In addition, in addition to the S10 + reviewed below, Samsung also offers the S10e and S10 5G models. The S10e, a smaller, less expensive, less equipped model with specifications much closer to those of the S9 +, and the 5G version, in addition to an even larger 6.7-inch screen and a few other improved (compared to S10 +) features, supports the next version of cellular technology; 4G is currently the standard.
The Galaxy S10 and its sibling S10 + below are some of the most advanced smartphones available so far this year. They are also some of the most expensive. As I wrote earlier, the 512GB model sells for about $ 1,150, and as you can see, the upcoming 1TB version of the S10 + costs significantly more.
Amazon users rate the S10 4.4 out of 5 stars for the screen, sound quality and battery life. There is nothing wrong with this phone except the price!
Samsung Galaxy S10 +
Basic information:
Pros: Triple rear camera with low-light and wide-angle shooting and amazing AI. 12.5 hours of battery life. Fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Stunning dynamic AMOLED screen. Expandable storage up to 1.5 TB. Dolby Atmos audio.
Cons: Expensive. Fingerprint reader is too close to cameras.
Next to the S10 5G, the Galaxy S10 + is not only the latest of the super-equipped smartphones, but also the most impressive. The S10 + is everything you can get in a cell phone on steroids. The 6.4 ” Ultra High Resolution Dynamic AMOLED display is stunning.
Samsung’s triple rear cameras and AI software are incredible and you have a choice of 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB (if you don’t mind spending $ 1,599.99) storage, expandable up to 1.5TB. The battery life is only 12.5 hours and I can’t think of any feature other than an on-screen fingerprint scanner that wasn’t included in this phone.
Until the Note 10 launches later this year, barring something unexpected and unexpected from Apple and Google, we probably won’t be able to find a better mobile device in the next six months or so. Depending on where you are and who you buy from, the S10 + is available in a variety of colors including: Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, Canary Yellow, Flamingo Pink, Ceramic Black, and Ceramic White.
Amazon users give it 4.4 out of five, praising many features including display, cameras, battery life, sound quality and more …
Sony Xperia XZ3
Basic information:
Pros: Passable camera. Quick. Stylish design.
Cons: Expensive. No disruptive features. Side Sense is unfinished.
The Sony Xperia XZ3 made this list primarily because it is one of the most stylish phones on the market, and of course, as a Sony product, it is well built and does not require any savings. Like many of the devices featured here, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which until the recent 855 release in Galaxy S10 models was one of the fastest smartphone processors available.
You also get a 6-inch 18: 9 QHD + HDR OLED display, which while can’t match the Dynamic AMOLED screens on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy models, just like the HDTVs and Sony computer monitors are great.
The 4GB RAM allocation and 64GB storage space are a bit scarce, especially for a $ 800 phone, but you can upgrade to 576GB with a 512GB microSD card. With the Z3, Sony continues the tradition of great-sounding front-facing stereo speakers as well as a dedicated camera button to launch the camera app.
Also included is Sony Side Sense, which, when you double-tap the edge of the screen, brings up a menu (or field) of your most frequently used apps and settings. While this is a great idea, it doesn’t always work. Plus, the Z3 lacks face recognition, which is bad for a phone in this price range.
Another reason I chose the Z3 for this review is that everywhere I looked, including Amazon, user reviews were very favorable. Amazon users, for example, got 4.3 out of 5. The excellent screen and stunning stereo sound make this a very attractive smartphone.
