If this all sounds familiar, try the Shark Wandvac Self-Emptying System as your cleaning tool. In this vacuum cleaner review, we’ll take a look at this powerful and lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner and share our test results so you can decide if this vacuum cleaner fits your home cleaning needs.
Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System: First Impressions & Specs
Shark is a famous brand in the world of vacuum cleaners. Shark vacuum cleaners are often compared to some of the most popular vacuum cleaners on the market, such as Dyson vacuum cleaners. The Shark Wandvac is designed to be a lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner that empties itself. So if you’re the type who regularly forgets to empty your vacuum cleaner’s trash can (or maybe you’re like me and just don’t like doing it), the Shark self-cleaning system is the perfect find for you. The system takes care of this part of the maintenance and you always have a vacuum cleaner ready to start cleaning the house.

Design and Unpacking
Shark Wandvac is delivered disassembled, all parts are assembled in one box. With everything out of the box, you can either use the quick cordless vacuum cleaner assembly guide, or you can do it without any instructions. The whole system is intuitive. I assembled the Shark Wandvac in minutes without looking at the manual.
What’s in the box
- Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System
- Self-Cleaning Charging Base with HEPA Filter and Quiet Mode li>
- Duster crevice tool
- Pet tool
- Quick start guide and user manual
From the very beginning, I recommend doing one thing that will improve the appearance of your Shark Wandvac vacuum cleaner – remove all labels that you find on it. The labels are well thought out. Each of them helps to assemble and get acquainted with the operation of the vacuum cleaner, but spoils the overall appearance of the gadget. I believe labels should be removed after (or even before) first use.
Cleaning Performance
I have found the Shark Wandvac self-emptying system to be a great help around the house. We tested the vacuum cleaner on hard floors and it had no problem picking up large debris and fine dust. We don’t have carpet at home, but a test we did on a couch showed that this vacuum cleaner can work on a variety of different types of surfaces. However, before you start cleaning, you need to collect the Shark Wandvac vacuum cleaner and put it on charge.
Installation process
Once you take the cordless handheld vacuum cleaner out of the box, you will need to go through the setup process before you can start cleaning. Luckily, Shark Wandvac is easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes of your time. To assemble the vacuum cleaner, connect the nozzle to the main brush nozzle, and then connect the handheld vacuum cleaner to the nozzle. When you put each piece in place, you will hear a distinctive click. To assemble the docking station, insert the charging stand into the slot at the top of the charging base until it clicks into place. Then place the vacuum cleaner on the dock in a downward motion. You’ll know it’s properly attached when you hear the emptying of the dust bin begin (it’s quite loud so you won’t miss it).
Vacuum
Thanks to the various accessories included in the kit, you can use the Shark Wandvac system to clean your apartment in many different ways. If you prefer vertical stick mode, you can leave the PowerFins floor nozzle on for deeper floor cleaning. Or you can ditch the wand and switch to handheld vacuuming mode with the accessory of your choice.
Self-cleaning process
Short runtime
When I first used this vacuum cleaner, I thought it was too good to be true. And then I noticed that after about 12 minutes of operation, the LED indicator began to flash, reminding me that I need to put the vacuum cleaner on charge. The next time I used Wandvac, I managed to squeeze a full 15 minutes out of it, but that was the maximum. To be honest, I only have two small rooms, and I have time to clean before the battery runs out. But if you have a large house, this vacuum cleaner will not be enough for serious cleaning. The Shark Wandvac is ideal for a quick clean, but not for a full house cleaning.
Battery Life
The Shark Wandvac self-emptying system comes pre-installed with lithium-ion batteries. You will need about 3.5 hours to fully charge the vacuum cleaner from scratch.Shark claims the device will run for 17 minutes on a full charge, but remember that you can only achieve these results with a handheld vacuum cleaner. When you attach the handset and floor nozzle, the time is shortened by a few minutes, further shortening the already short battery life.Like all lithium-ion products, battery capacity naturally decreases over time. However, the Wandvac system comes with a lengthy 5 year limited warranty, a 2 year battery warranty and a 60 day money back guarantee. If the battery fails during the warranty period, you can request a free replacement.
Should You Buy the Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System?
Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System is the perfect vacuum cleaner for those who live in a small apartment, do not like to manually empty the dust container of a vacuum cleaner and need a versatile cleaning tool that can handle a variety of surfaces.Add in the lightness and portability factor and you have a definite yes on whether or not you should buy this vacuum for your home. The only real downside to this cleaning beast is the short run time, so I wouldn’t recommend using it as your main vacuum cleaner for a large home. And if you’re looking for a fully automated cleaning option, consider getting a robotic vacuum cleaner that does all the house cleaning for you.
