Prevent Mac from Automatically Going to Sleep.

One thing that every new Mac user will notice very soon is that their computer would go to sleep after a while.

This is a useful feature for saving battery power. But this feature often becomes annoying. For example, when rendering a video, compiling code, or downloading something from the Internet. This is because you have to repeatedly touch the trackpad or press a key on the keyboard to keep the Mac awake.

The rest is simple, depending on your preference, you can drag the slider left or right to adjust your sleep time. If you don’t want your Mac to ever sleep, drag the slider all the way to the right where it says never. Once you’re done setting up for both battery and charging mode, close only the window and you will be saved.

Changing the default setting is not a good solution, however, as in most cases you want your Mac to go to sleep as usual, and only occasionally you might want your Mac to stay awake. While we can manually change the setting whenever we want by going to system settings, it won’t be a disgusting thing to do. Right !

In such a case, when you need a Mac sleep timer, you can download an app called caffeine. This is one of the most beloved apps that has been around for many years. After installing the app, you will see a small cute coffee symbol in the upper right corner of the toolbar. Clicking on it will open the option to prevent your Mac from going to sleep at various time intervals from 5 minutes, 15 minutes to 5 hours, or never.

However, if you rarely use this feature and don’t want to download a third party app, you can use the following command, as uOS suggests daily:

In your terminal, enter pmset noidle, this will prevent the Mac from going to sleep and stop this command by pressing CTRL + c on the same terminal.

Prevent your Mac from sleeping after closing the lid

Unlike Windows, there is no way on a Mac to leave the system turned on while the lid is closed. However, when we only need to listen to music or a podcast on our Mac, there is no point in keeping the lid open.

In such a case, when you want to “prevent the Mac from going to sleep after closing the lid,” you can use an app called “No Sleep”. The app is small, easy to use and works as written. What I love is that it also gives you the option to never sleep with the AC adapter plugged in or when running on battery power.

Attention! Never move or travel with your Mac if the lid is closed but the system is working. This is because shaking your Macbook can prevent the hard drive from spinning, even causing the hard drive to fail.
