American Citizen Services is closed to the public during U.S. and Pakistani holidays.
After reading the information below, please schedule an appointment by clicking here.
If you are seeking to renew a U.S. passport that had 10 year validity (as opposed to 5 year validity), you will need to fill out the required documents and come to the U.S. Consulate for an appointment.  Regrettably, we do not accept passport renewals by mail.
You are required to furnish the following:

  • Your most recent U.S. passport;
  • Two U.S. passport sized (2x2inch) photographs.  See photograph requirements for information on the correct size.  Photographs which do not meet the requirements will be rejected;
  • DS-82 passport form (fill out online and print).  Complete the form online, and print it.  Please DO NOT mail the form to the United States or the U.S. Consulate;
  • If you have changed your name since your previous U.S. passport was issued, you will be required to furnish evidence of your name change, such as marriage certificate or court order;

  • Fees: Fee is payable in cash or by credit card.  The fee for a renewal of a U.S. passport will be $110.00.  You will pay the fee in person to the Cashier at the time you appear at the U.S. Consulate.
  • Incomplete, unsigned or incorrect applications will not be accepted and will delay processing.

How to Apply for a First Passport Over the Age of 18

If you believe you have a claim to U.S. citizenship and you are over the age of 18, you will need to set up an appointment at U.S. Consulate Karachi to determine if you are entitled to a U.S. passport.  Please follow the instructions on this page if you never had a U.S. passport issued in your own name.
Note:  If you are no longer in possession of any of these documents below, you must obtain a certified copy from the issuing authority.

  • A U.S. Birth Certificate – for certified copies please contact the state in which you were born. The National Center for Health Statistics maintains a list of States’ contact information for this purpose;
  • A Consular Report of Birth Abroad [FS-240] – please contact the Passport Services Office at the Department of State;
  • A Certification of Birth (Form FS-545 or DS-1350) – for certified copies, please contact the Department of State Passport Vital Records Section;
  • A U.S. certificate of citizenship – for certified copies, please contact the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services;
  • A U.S. Naturalization Certificate – for certified copies, please contact the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services;
  • A passport of your U.S. citizen parent[s] in which you are included – for a copy of your parents’ passport records, please contact the Passport Services Office at the Department of State.

Note: If you are applying for the first passport for a child under the age of 18 who was born overseas, you must first report the child’s birth You may apply for the child’s first passport at the same time.
Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship:
    • a U.S. Birth Certificate; or
    • a U.S. Consular Report of Birth Abroad; or
    • a U.S. Certification of Birth; or
    • a U.S. Certificate of Citizenship; or
    • a U.S. Naturalization Certificate; or
    • a passport of your U.S. citizen parent(s) in which you are included.
  • Your original, Pakistani birth certificate (if you were born here).  Certified copy of your long-form birth record issued by the appropriate governmental authority, showing your full name, date and place of birth, parents’ information, filing and issue date.
  • Proof of identity
    • a valid passport of any country; or
    • a valid driver’s license with photograph; or
    • a valid U.S. or State government ID card; or
    • a U.S. military ID card; or
    • Any foreign passport that you may currently hold.
  • Form DS-11.  Complete the form online and print.  Do not sign it.  You are required to sign the form before a consular officer.  
  • The non-refundable application fee for a first passport is $105.00 (for under 16) or $135.00 (for 16 or over).  You will pay the fee in person to the Cashier at the time you appear at the U.S. Consulate.
  • Two U.S. passport sized (2x2inch) photographs.  See photograph requirements for information on the correct size.  Photographs which do not meet the requirements will be rejected.
  • Evidence of Parents’ Marriage:  Certified copy of your parents’ marriage certificate issued by the appropriate governmental authority. Religious records are not acceptable.
  • Evidence of Termination of your Parent’s Previous Marriages: Certified copy of divorce decree/death certificate etc.
  • Evidence of Change of Name:  If you and/or your parents have changed names through marriage, court order, etc, submit an original or certified copy of the relevant documents.
  • Evidence of Physical Presence in the United States of U.S. Citizen Parent(s); Documentary evidence of periods of physical presence in the United States of your U.S. citizen parent(s) prior to your birth, including periods of physical presence outside the United States when the parent served in the U.S. armed forces or employed by other U.S. government agencies (if applicable). Please review our Transmission requirements webpage and physical presence webpage for further information.
  • Evidence of Parentage and/or Legitimation:  Credible and substantial evidence of blood relationship between yourself and your U.S. parent(s) must be submitted with your application. If you were born out-of-wedlock, please consult the attached “Table of Transmission Requirements” for the legitimation laws that may be applicable at the time of your birth.
  • Affidavit of Parentage Completed by your U.S. Citizen Parent(s) (PDF 280 KB):  Your U.S. citizen parent should accompany you to the Embassy to sign the affidavit under oath. If your parent is in the United States, the affidavit can be signed before a notary public and must be accompanied by a notarized copy of your parent’s.

Additional documents may be required depending upon the circumstances of your case.
If applying for a child under the age of 16, you will also be required to follow additional instructions
