We tried FlexClip drag and drop video editing software and shot a short video for online tech tips. Here are our thoughts on the process and how it all worked.
Getting Started with FlexClip
FlexClip is intuitive. With a bit of instructions, we were able to get started using the system, but there is a small three-step guide to guide you through the process.
When you enter FlexClip, you are presented with several options. You can make a video from an existing template (great for those who just need something quick), or you can start from scratch.
There are dozens of templates to choose from, all broken down into categories like Thanksgiving, Business, Social Media, Real Estate, Lifestyle, etc. Each category has several options inside. For example, the Real Estate category has options: Modern Real Estate Ad, Beachfront Real Estate, Real Estate Agency Ads, etc.

If you decide to start from scratch, the designer will ask which ratio you want to use. This allows you to create videos targeted to specific screens. For example, you can make 16: 9 video for standard monitors, 9:16 video for full screen vertical phones, 1: 1 video for something like Instagram, 4: 5 video for social media, or 21: 9 video for ultra-wide monitors.
While all of these devices can view all types of video, if you create your clip with a specific media in mind, the end result will be higher quality.
Making a Video
Whether you start with a template or from scratch, you will be taken to an editing screen. The screen is divided into three main sections.
- In the top left corner, you have your assets: text, dynamic elements, music and business.
- The video clip that you are currently editing is displayed in the upper right corner.
- Below is the storyboard.
The resource area is divided into subcategories, with the most common options displayed first. If you click the All button next to any category, you will see all the options available to you. FlexClip even has a section for free music; In other words, everything you need to create a professional looking video is always at your fingertips.
If you want to see how moving text or dynamic elements will be displayed before you select them, just hover over the top. An animated preview will show you how the element will react.
Inserting Videos
Inserting a new video clip using FlexClip video editing software is as easy as clicking the + Storyboard tab at the bottom. When you do, you can choose to record your screen, record from your webcam, add local media, add a background, or add standard media. In the standard media section, you will see hundreds of video clips.
The clips are broken down into 27 different sections, from animals to technology and everything in between. Each section has a variety of free clips as well as suggested tags to help you refine your search. When you select a video, it appears in the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
Each clip can be trimmed to a specific time. If you’ve selected an asset on the right side, like text, all you have to do is drag it to the top of the clip to paste. You can place an element where you want it to appear, choose what you want to say in the text, and more.
Exporting Your Videos
When you’re done editing your video, you can export it as 480p, 720p, and 1080p (although the latter two are locked behind the paid tiers). Before exporting, you can name the video, specify an editor, and choose an additional splash screen to play before the video starts.
The compilation and export process takes place online, not on your computer. This means users without powerful editing stations can create great videos. When we tested FlexClip, it took just over a minute to compile and download the 37-second video.

It’s free to join FlexClip, but the most powerful features are locked down behind premium tiers.
Free pricing limits downloads to 480p SD with only one stock video per project. Free users can have a maximum of 12 projects with videos up to 1 minute in length.

Is FlexClip Worth It?
