I recently ran into a client that couldn’t print correctly from Internet Explorer 7 or 8 on a Windows 7 machine. When I tried to print from IE, the Print dialog just disappeared and nothing was printed.
Also, whenever we tried to preview before printing, the screen remained blank except for the page number in the header and some weird file path at the bottom. The file path looked like this:
AppData Local Temp Low RU4GX5A5.htm ” AppData Local Temp Low RU4GX5A5.htm” File: // C: Users AppData Local Temp Low RU4GX5A5.htm
This can happen for several reasons, and there are several possible ways to fix it so you can print correctly in IE.
The first method – restart IE
The easiest way to fix the problem is to simply restart Internet Explorer and try to print the webpage or preview it.
If that doesn’t work and IE still won’t print or the print preview is blank, try the next method.
Method two – create a missing folder
This issue can also occur if there is no special Windows folder. You may need to recreate it. Here’s how to do it.
– /
1. Close all open IE windows.
2. Click Start, then type% temp% in the search box and click the Temp folder in the list.
3. Now create a new folder called Low. In Vista, you can choose New Folder from the Organize menu or New Folder from the Windows 7 main menu.
4. After creating the Low folder, close Explorer, restart IE and try to print the webpage again.
If this method doesn’t work, you have another option!
Third method – low integration level reset
Don’t worry about what that means, just follow these steps:
1. Click Start and type cmd in the search box. Right click on Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”.
2. At a command prompt, enter the following command:
ICACLS “% userprofile% AppData Local Temp Low” / setintegritylevel (OI) (CI) low
3. Restart your computer and try to print the webpage again!
Hopefully one of these three methods fixed IE’s blank print preview screen issue! If not, leave a comment here and I’ll try to help! Enjoy!
