How you can take a screenshot On Steam.
From time to time in the game, you will come across something that you want to capture and remember. Perhaps you’ve completed a challenging achievement, found rare in-game content, or simply want to showcase quality graphics.
Steam, the popular PC video game launcher, gives you the ability to take screenshots as you play and share them instantly with your friends. You can share it directly on your profile or on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.
Taking a screenshot on Steam is easy. There are just a few things you need to do ahead of time and a few tips to remember to get a truly stellar screenshot.
Change Your Steam SettingsÂ
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the Steam overlay enabled when you play the game through Steam. To do this, open Steam, go to the top left corner, and click Steam> Settings> In-Game.
Here you will see several options for taking screenshots. But first, make sure the option Enable Steam Overlay while playing is ticked. This is required for Steam to take and save your screenshots.
You will see a keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot just below on the right. You can change the keyboard shortcuts to whatever you want, the default is set to F12. On the right below it you will also see the Screenshot Folder button. Click here to select a location to save screenshots on your computer.
Finally, you can choose what happens when the screenshot is taken. You can choose to receive a notification, play a sound, and save an uncompressed copy of the image. When you’re happy with the screenshot settings, click OK.
Take Your Screenshot In-Game
You can now launch any game you want to take a screenshot of. Make sure you run it through the Steam platform. If you want to take a screenshot, press the previously selected keyboard shortcuts.
If you choose to play a notification or sound, you should notice it when you take a screenshot. If not, you can check if Steam took a snapshot on boot.
Press the keys you assigned to open the Steam overlay. By default, this is Shift + Tab. Once in the overlay, you will see the Screenshots section in the lower left corner. Click View Screenshots to open the Screenshot window.
At the top of this window, you will see that you can choose to view screenshots from the current session or from a previous game in which you have screenshots saved. You can check here to make sure your images were captured correctly.
When you find the screenshot you want to download on Steam, click on it and you will see that you can add a signature or mark it as a spoiler. You can also select each screenshot you take by clicking Select All. In the lower right corner, there are options for uninstalling or downloading.
When you click Download, you open a window where you can select some download options. You can set the screenshot to be Public, Friends Only, or Private by clicking the visibility drop-down list. You can also send the screenshot to Facebook.
By clicking “Upload”, your screenshot will be saved to the Steam Cloud.
Manage Your Steam Screenshots
You can now view screenshots that you took via Steam and uploaded to your profile. To see them, you can go to Account Name> Content> Screenshots or Account Name> Profile and find the Screenshots button in the right sidebar.
On this page, you can control how you and other users can view the screenshots you uploaded. At the top, below the navigation bar, you can choose the view mode “Grid” or “Wall of images”. You can also choose to view the newest screenshots first, the oldest or most popular first. Finally, in this panel, you can choose to view all of your screenshots or just your public, private, friends only, or not listed.
If you would like to download more screenshots, you can click the “Download Screenshots …†button to open the same screenshot window that you accessed in the Steam overlay to select other screenshots to download.
You can also change the visibility of your screenshots by clicking the Manage Screenshots button. Then choose which screenshots you want to edit and click Done.
Share Your Screenshots to Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit
In addition to being able to share your screenshots to Facebook in-game, you can also do so in the screenshots section of your profile, as well as share them on Twitter, Reddit, or other social networks.
Click one of your screenshots and a larger image will open. On the right, you’ll see where you may or may not like it. You can also add comments.
To the far right, you will see a gear icon. Click here to see “Share†or “Add image to favorites†options. You can also choose “Follow” or “Report”, but this is for viewing screenshots of other users.
Select Share to open the sharing window. You can submit the image to your Steam activity feed, where it will appear on your profile and to others who can see your feed. There are also buttons for posting to Facebook, Twitter and Reddit. Clicking on one of them will automatically take you to the site to publish it.
You will also find a link to your screenshot at the bottom of the window so you can share it on any other platform.
