Location history Google Maps allows you to see all the places you’ve visited on your phone. It records the locations you go to, stores them in its database, and lets you view them anywhere, anytime.
This database of places you’ve visited is accessible from most devices, including your desktop, iPhone, and Android devices. All you have to do is access the Google Maps app on your device and you can view your Google location history on maps.

Enable / disable location history in Google Maps
You must make sure this feature is enabled on your account before you can use it. It can be turned on and off on all three types of devices shown below.
Turn desktop location history on or off
If you are using a desktop computer and want to turn Google Location History on or off, you do not need to install any applications to do so. You can complete the task in any of the web browsers on your computer.
- Open a new browser tab and go to the Google Maps website. Sign in to your Google account if you haven’t already.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the screen and a new menu will appear.
- Select your data on Maps from this new menu.

- You can now turn the location history switch on or off.

If you have an Android device, you first need to install the Google Maps app on your phone. It’s pre-installed on most phones and you should find it in the app drawer if it’s not already on your home screen.
- Launch the Google Maps app on your phone.
- Click on your profile icon in the upper right corner.
- In the menu that appears, select the Settings option. The Maps settings will open.

- Select the Private Content option on the next screen.

- Scroll down until you see the Location Settings section. Here you will find an option that says Location History is enabled. Click on it to open it.

- You should now see a toggle on-screen to enable or disable the Google location history feature on your Android device.

Turn location history on and off on iPhone

IPhone users also need the Google Maps app to enable and use the Google Maps Location History feature. After you have downloaded the app from the App Store, you can manage your Google location history settings on your iPhone as follows.
- Open the Google Maps app on your iPhone.
- Click on your profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select the Settings option.
- Scroll down the next screen and click on the Private Content option.

View Google Location History on Maps
Once you have enabled this feature and it has recorded some of the places you have been, you can view your location history on Google Maps on any of your devices.
While you should have no problem displaying the Maps timeline on your Android and iPhone, the timeline actually looks better on the desktop, and it is recommended that you open it from your computer if possible.
Accessing location history on the Desktop site
Again, if you’re on a computer, you don’t need an app or software to access your location history. You can view it on the official Google Maps website.
- Open a new tab in your browser and open the Google Maps website.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the screen and select “Your seats”.
- The next screen will have four tabs. Click on the tab labeled “Visited” and it will open.

- You should now see a list of all the places you visited when the location history feature was enabled. He will also tell you the date when you visited the place. You can click a location to open it on Maps.

- If you want to view your location history in a more interactive and fun way, you can go to the Google Maps Timeline page. It shows your visited places on a map by date.

On an Android device, you can use the Google Maps app to access your location history.
- Start the Google Maps app.
- Click on your profile icon at the top and select your schedule.
- Click Today at the top and select the date you want to view history for.

You can use the Google Maps app on your iPhone to view your location history.
- Open the Maps app.
- Click on your profile icon at the top and select “Timeline”.
- Click the calendar icon at the top and select a date to view your history.

Share your location on Google Maps
Google Maps is a lifesaver app for many, as it helps you stay on track and shows the direction in which you should head. One of its features allows you to share your location with your loved ones.
If you are on a trip or somewhere far away and want your family to be able to track your location, you can share your location in real time using the app.
- Launch the application on a mobile device.
- Click on your profile icon and select Share Geodata.
- Choose the duration for which you want to show your location. Then select the contact you want to share the location with and tap Share.
