Windows 10 has a Camera app that lets you use your webcam to record videos and take photos. It’s definitely better than downloading third-party webcam recording software that is infected with spyware or malware. In this article, I will guide you on how to use the app and configure various settings.
One of the problems with the nice new interface in Windows 10 apps is that sometimes it’s too simplistic and straightforward. They literally removed the buttons and other visuals you would expect. For example, there are literally three other buttons in addition to the image and video buttons.
Please note that if you want to add filters, edit, crop or draw an image, you should use the included Photos app in Windows 10.
Using the Windows 10 Camera app
Before we get into that, let’s go over the basics. First, open the app, and if you don’t already have a built-in webcam or one connected to your PC, you’ll see a simple black screen that says We can’t find your camera .
As soon as you connect the camera, it will ask you for permission to use the webcam in the Camera application.
Once you’ve done that, you should be able to see your webcam in a full screen window with a couple of buttons at the top and side:
Please note, if your webcam doesn’t work with the Windows 10 camera app, this probably means Windows 10 doesn’t recognize your webcam. This is likely because the driver is not compatible with Windows 10. You will have to go to the manufacturer’s website and see if they have a Windows 10 version of the driver. If not, you just have to wait until it appears. released.
Now comes the fun part! How do I take a photo or video using the Camera app in Widows 10? Just click or tap the camera icon to take a photo, and click or tap the video camera icon to start the video. By default, it takes a photo or video and then saves it to the Camera Roll folder in the Pictures folder. When you click, it will make a clicking sound and then the image will slide off the screen to the lower right icon.
Note that you will have a third icon on your tablet that will allow you to take a panoramic photo. In addition, you may have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the app drawer, which will allow you to change the camera (if there is more than one), set the time, change the exposure, etc.
To take a video, you need to press the video mode button so that it turns white and then press the button again.
The timer will start at the bottom of the screen, and all you have to do is press the button again to stop recording.
If you click on the little gear icon in the upper right corner, you can change the settings. The first option is what happens when you press and hold the camera button. By default, only one photo is taken. You can change it to Photo Burst or Video.
Then, based on your camera, you can choose the resolution you want to shoot. Then you can add a framing grid as a camera overlay. The following options are available: Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio, Crosshair, and Square. This is useful if you are using the camera app on a tablet, such as Surface Pro.
Then, if you set a timer in the camera app, which I explain below, you can set the camera app automatically for slow motion. Therefore, if you set the timer to every 5 seconds, it will keep taking pictures until you press the camera button again.
For videos, you can choose the recording quality, which again will depend on the camera connected to your computer or built into your device. To reduce flicker when recording video, select the highest refresh rate listed. Also, if you have a tablet, be sure to turn on digital video stabilization when shooting video.
Finally, below there are a few links where you can change the default location where photos and videos are saved and choose whether the camera can use the location information or not.
Back on the home screen, tap on the little clock to set the timer. This will only be displayed when you are in picture mode. You can select the following intervals: timer off, 2 seconds, 5 seconds and 10 seconds.
Click the arrow to expand the list and you will see another icon that allows you to adjust the brightness. A semicircle will appear and you can simply click and drag the circle to make changes.
After you take a photo or video, click the small icon in the lower right corner to open the Photos app for viewing. In addition, both pictures and videos are stored in the Camera Roll folder under Pictures.
