How to Use iPhone and iPad as a Baby Monitor.baby monitor app android.baby monitor app iphone and android.
Caring for a newborn is expensive. Get lots of accessories – from new clothes to diapers, to trolleys and, of course, a baby monitor. Luckily, you can save some money by turning your old iPhone or iPad into a baby monitor. I have compiled a list of applications that allow you to do this.
However, before we start, if your baby is between 0 and 3 months old, I would recommend that you get a good quality baby monitor such as the one from Infant Optics DXR-8. It costs a little more at $ 165, but offers 2.4GHz FHSS for more security and no interference. During my testing, the applications we are about to see sometimes lost connection. And you shouldn’t take that risk with a newborn, especially if you are away from home. So let’s get started.
Baby Monitor for iPhone
1. Use AirPods and iPhone to stream audio.
There are a few sound-only baby monitors that you can buy on Amazon, but if you already own a pair of iPhones and Airpods (or even Powerbeats Pro) well, you can use them as a baby monitor. It works with the new Live Listen feature, which allows you to use your iPhone’s microphone to stream audio to AirPods in real time using Bluetooth.
First, make sure that Live listen is activated on your iPhone. Go to Settings on your iPhone, scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click Control Center.

We’re going to add a live listen button to the Control Center, so tap the Customize controls option. All options listed in red are already in the Control Center menu. If you don’t see the Hear option there, add it from Additional Controls.

Now, simply connect your AirPods to your iPhone or iPad by opening the AirPods case next to your phone and sliding them into your ears. Open Control Center and click the ear-shaped button.
If AirPods are connected and in your ears, you’ll see Live Listen turned off. Click to enable.
You can now hear the audio picked up by the iPhone through your AirPods. You can turn up the volume using the volume buttons on iPhone until you can clearly hear your child’s bedroom environment. Make sure you are within reach to get decent audio output, since the AirPods are Bluetooth-based, their range is limited to around 30 feet, but you might lose some range if the device is in a different room.
2. Use an application for audio transmission.
If you don’t have AirPods, you can still make a temporary baby monitor with two iOS devices. Baby Monitor Teddy is a free app that you can install on two iPhones or iPads and use one device as a receiver and the other as a transmitter, just like the original baby monitors. The only difference is that it works over WiFi.
Install the Baby Monitor Teddy app on your iPhone or iPad from the App Store. After downloading the app to both devices, open the app and select one device as the parent unit and the other as the baby unit.
Make sure both devices are on the same network and the internet connection is working. For some strange reason, apps need internet connection to authenticate each other, but if internet connection is lost after devices are connected, app continues to run normally.

Now place the baby unit in your baby’s room and take the other unit with you. Since both of these apps work over Wi-Fi, you get better range than AirPods and can walk around your home without worrying about dropping your connection.
3. Use an application to receive audio and video streams.
The previous two methods are great for observing your child with only sound. However, there are many free and paid apps that you can use to view your child’s room in real time. The following app allows you to transfer video and audio via iPhone to another iPhone, however, if you want to stream video to your Mac computer, you can install a 3G baby monitor for your iPhone and Mac. The app costs $ 4.99 on the App Store.
Whichever application you choose, the installation process will be the same. I chose the Baby Cam app because it’s free and works with Wi-Fi. There are other apps that work as well as a 3G / 4G / 5G / WiFi baby monitor with a 7-day free trial and a $ 3.99 Cloud Baby Monitor.
Install Baby Cam app on both devices, now open the app on one phone and create an account. You can create it using your Facebook credentials or you can do it manually. After that, log in to both devices.
Assign the baby station to one application and the parent device to another. The baby station will constantly monitor, which means that it is consuming a significant amount of power, just make sure you plug in the power cable so it doesn’t run out of power.
When you use the app for the first time, you will be prompted for a security code before authenticating your device. You will see the code on the baby station, enter the code on the parent device and wait for its confirmation.
After you enter the code, the live broadcast will begin and it will be transmitted with little or no delay. However, it requires an internet connection to establish a connection, but it continues to work over Wi-Fi even after losing internet connection. It will also notify you of any connection failures and activities with notifications.
The app has a built-in intelligent sound detection system that doesn’t require you to constantly look at your phone. When the Baby Station detects a loud sound, such as crying, it sends a notification to your iPhone so you can examine your baby. You can enable continuous audio or video transmission by clicking the button below.
Final Words
These were three different ways to create a temporary baby monitor for your baby. The apps I listed are free and have no hidden costs. They require an internet connection, but they work fine even if the internet is temporarily unavailable. What do you think of these methods, do you have a better application for this, let me know in the comments below?
