How to Use Internet Effectively to Consume Information.
Did you know that 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated every day? Here’s another fun fact. Before you finish this sentence, over 40 hours of videos have been uploaded to YouTube and 1,440 articles have been published on WordPress. Now, if you are a person like me who has a huge appetite for consuming information online, then the traditional method of going to every website or video will not work.
So, here is my personal system of how I optimized my content consumption on the Internet. Let’s start.
How to use the Internet effectively
Articles
With Feedly, I can read (scan) 100 articles every day.
For unknown people, Feedly is an RSS reader , which allows you to subscribe to your favorite blogs or YouTube channels, and whenever they post a new article or video, they automatically appear in your Feedly dashboard. Simply put, instead of visiting 20 different websites every day, all this content comes to me. Here’s our in-depth guide to using Feedly effectively.
The best time to check out Feedly is in the morning so you can play your day accordingly.
Podcast
With YouTube Premium, you can listen to your favorite podcast in the background.
When it comes to podcasts, most people recommend apps like Pocketcast or Podcast Addict, however I suggest you try YouTube Premium. For just $ 3 in India ($ 12 in the US), YouTube Premium not only gives you ad-free YouTube, it also adds background playback.
Before YouTube Premium, I used the Pocketcast app to listen to podcasts by Joe Rogan, CGP Gray, etc. But since most podcast publishers also published their episode on YouTube, there is no point in using an additional app.
The best time to listen to podcasts is before bed or during your daily activities.
Wrote
With Audible, you can turn any physical book into audiobooks
So far, we’ve used Feedly for reading blogs and YouTube Premium for videos and podcasts. But what about those books that you don’t seem to have time to read? The answer is heard.
Like an RSS reader, I’ve been using Audible for the past 5 years and it’s one of the most productive habits I’ve developed over time. I have listened to many books that I would never have read otherwise.
I usually listen to nonfiction on Audible, and if you are interested in my reading list, feel free to email me or tweet me.
The best time to listen to Audible is when you are walking or doing your daily activities.
I don’t use social media, but you still need a place to connect with the online community.
This is where Reddit comes in. Now If you spend a lot of time on the Internet, you may already know what Reddit is, but if you don’t, Reddit is an online forum where people discuss their interest to a small community called subreddit. Some of my favorite subreddits include AskReddit, Android, RoastMe, Movie Suggestion, and Psychology.
My favorite is Reddit, unlike blogs and videos where you get to know the idea of just one person, Reddit, on the other hand, helps you see things from different perspectives.
The best time to enjoy Reddit is during your lunch break or when you are busy with meaningless tasks such as waiting for someone.
Applications
Choose exclusive magazines for your industry.
In virtually every sector, there is a need for paid subscription services that offer quality content that would not otherwise be available online.
For example, the Google News app should work for most people regardless of their niche. As the name suggests, Google News offers instant news from fairly reliable sources. However, if you want something exclusive, try the Havard Business Review or the Financial Times, it offers research papers, biographies about leadership, company management, and more. First, a few readings are free, and then you have to pay a monthly subscription to read more. …
The best time to watch the news is during the day, with short breaks.
Closing words
Overall, it was one way to effectively use data on the Internet, rather than wasting time on social media. My perfect day starts with Feedly and ends with a podcast with a bit of Reddit and Google News in between. And if I have time to go for a walk, I listen to my favorite Audible books.
The idea is to create a system that will ensure that all the latest and greatest content goes to you and not you search the Internet. It can take a while to get used to this system, and a lot of people I know have given up on this halfway through. But if you can get past this learning curve, the results will be great in the long run.
