How to Upload Audio to YouTube.
Uploading video to YouTube is easy, but when you try to upload audio files, the following error occurs.
The file you uploaded contains audio only and does not contain video. Learn how to easily convert an audio track to a video file type.
Apparently YouTube does not support MP3 files and you will have to convert them to a video file. But interestingly, the link that Google passes in the error doesn’t tell you anything about how to convert the audio to video file. Don’t worry, we’re here for that.
While you can edit them in video editing software such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc., they are often overkill for most users. The easiest way is to do it with the Audio to Video Converter app. In general, there are 4 ways to do this, and let’s discuss them in more detail.
Upload audio to YouTube
1. iOS app
On iOS, uploading MP3 files to YouTube is difficult because iOS doesn’t allow you to upload music to your phone. But there is a workaround with two third party apps. First, you will need to download and install iMovie and the second is WhatsApp, which you may already have. Then send the music file to yourself or someone else on WhatsApp. Now press and hold the music file and press “Forward” in the pop-up window.

After you click on the Forward option, you will receive a list of applications that will help you transfer the file. Swipe right, tap More and go to the bottom of the list. You will find the “Copy to iMovie” option, click on it. Select the appropriate project or create a new one. iOS will automatically download and import the file to iMovie.
After importing the music file, we need to add an image to overlay the music file. Tap the “+” sign in the left corner of the timeline. Pick the perfect image from your gallery and import it into iMovie. The image will be automatically adjusted and cropped accordingly. If not, just click on the image layer and edit accordingly.
When you’re done editing, click the Done button in the upper left corner. On the next screen, click the Share button and then click on YouTube. iMovie will ask you for export settings, which should be 1080p or 720p according to your preference. The resolution doesn’t really matter as we’re more concerned about the sound. Next, you will be prompted to sign in with your linked Google account and iMovie will directly share the video to YouTube.
Pros:
- Improved customization with iMovie editing tools.
- Ability to use GIF and multiple images.
Cons:
- Audio import is not supported by third party video editors.
2. Web service
This is the simplest method and requires a limited understanding of codecs and compression ratios. All you have to do is visit sites like TovVid or EZ-Convertor. The former allows you to connect directly to YouTube, but it also means that you need access to your YT account to post on your behalf. So, in this case, we’ll move on to the second.
EZ-Convertor allows you to upload 2 files. One is the image, which will act as an overlay for the video file, and the other will be your actual audio file.

After uploading the image and video file, click the Create Video button. Uploading the files to the server will take some time, depending on the size of the mp3 file. After that, the entries will be reset and you will have a download link right above the text box to download the image. Click on it to download the video.
Pros:
- Simple and one step process.
- Faster conversion.
- Works on both mobile devices and computers.
Cons:
- No customization options.
- Unable to upload multiple images.
- No cutting or cropping tools.
3. Online video converter
If you need more customization of the music track, it is better to use an online editor. The web editor is more efficient for the machine than loading it. And the best you can get is ClipChamp online video editor. The only caveat is that you have to register on the site. If video is something you do regularly, registering on the site makes sense. After registration, create a new project and select the “Widescreen” size.
Once in the editor, drag the music file and the overlay image into the media window. You need to stretch the image to fit the entire video. You can use the + – icons to zoom in and out on the timeline.
Now that the video is ready, click the Export Video button in the upper right corner of the window. ClipChamp only lets you export in 480p format for a free account. It doesn’t really matter as we are only concerned with the sound and the sound quality is independent of the resolution.
Pros:
- Additional controls for music volume, trimming, and other editing tools.
- Overlay multiple images or GIFs.
Cons:
- Not intuitive if you’re a beginner.
- Difficult to use on mobile devices.
- Registration required.
4. Android application
If you download music via your phone and don’t have access to a laptop, Avee Player is the best Android app you can go for. The title can be confusing, but Avee Player can also convert mp3 files to videos. Install the application and go to the Library tab to select the MP3 file.
After opening the file, go to the “Renderer” tab. The player sets up a default image and visualizer for your song. Now you can change the background and image if you don’t like the default image. Just click the “Edit” button in the upper right corner and follow the instructions accordingly. Now, to convert MP3 to video, click the Download icon in the upper right corner. In addition, you will have the choice to choose a bit rate such as “1080p 256 Kbps” and video codec profiles such as H.264. If you want to set your own bitrate, you might have to shell out a whopping $ 8 * not recommended *.

The easiest and fastest way to do this is to use an online audio to video converter. If you need more control over bitrate and renderer, Avee Player is ideal. For any queries or questions, let me know in the comments below and I will get back to you.
