How to Upgrade to YouTube Premium Family Plan.
The YouTube Premium Family Plan costs $ 6 more than the standard single-user subscription, but the Family Plan is useful for 6 family members. So if your family members or even friends are looking to get a YouTube Premium subscription, upgrading to a family plan is an easy task. Plus, you get a completely ad-free experience with YouTube, background playback, YouTube Music, and a Google Play Music subscription.
To clarify things, getting a standard YouTube Premium subscription costs $ 12 a month, while getting a family plan will only cost $ 18 a month for 6 users. Having said that, here’s how you can go to the family plan and add or remove people.
Upgrade to YouTube Premium Family Plan
As of this writing, you get a month’s free trial when you upgrade from a non-premium account (you don’t get a free trial if you already have a standard YouTube subscription). Either way, you will have to pay for one month to start a family plan subscription, and only then will you get one month free. To upgrade, go to your YouTube Premium Family account page and click Try Free.
A pop-up window will open asking you to complete the payment. Pay by card, GPay or any other available payment method.
It will show you a slide with all the features you get with a family plan subscription. Click Continue and finally Got it. Your subscription is now active. The key takeaway is that YouTube only charges on a prorated basis. If you upgrade from your standard YouTube Premium to Family subscription in the last week of your billing cycle, you will be charged for the week only, not the entire month. Carefully.
Add family members
The family plan is technically for family members, but you can still add your friends, coworkers, or even other accounts if they’re over 13 years old. You cannot add G Suite accounts to a family plan at this time.
To add family members, open YouTube in a web browser, click your profile icon in the upper right corner, and select Paid Membership.

Click Manage Membership to open the drop-down menu and begin the process of adding people to your plan.
Click the Edit button next to the Family Sharing Settings section. Now you can simply click on the + and add the email addresses of the people you want to add to your plan. It will send an email to the people you added.
They will receive an email as shown below with an “Accept invitation” button. All they have to do is click this button in the body of the email to link their YouTube account to your family plan.
They must accept this up to 14 days, or the link will expire. You can even cancel the invitation at any time during this 14-day period.
Once their process is complete, you will receive an email stating that the user has been added. You can still remove them at any time.
Remove members from your plan
All member management will always be in your hands, since you purchased and invited people to your account. To remove, you can follow a similar step by going to YouTube Profile Paid Membership Manage Membership Change Family Sharing Settings and click on the profile you want to remove and click Remove Account.
Other benefits that come with a family plan
Besides the premium YouTube ad-free experience, you have several other benefits with a family plan. All your family members can share the calendar. Therefore, if someone adds an event to the family calendar, everyone will be notified of that event. Best for setting up family programs or you can even use this feature with your friends. Family members also get the ability to create notes in Keep Notes that everyone in your family can view.
