How is Bitmoji different from Bitstrips?

Snapchat is constantly trying to come up with fun new additions for its users. They are constantly releasing new updates and it sometimes takes a while to get used to them, like figuring out what all the different Snapchat emojis mean

Bitmoji is not a completely new concept, however. In the past, you could create comic versions of yourself and your friends and put them in different situations using the Bitstrips app. It was originally owned by Facebook and then acquired by Snapchat in 2016.

After the closure of Bitstrips, Snapchat developed Bitmoji, an app that lets you create your own emoji-style avatar and then use it across various social media channels.

While Bitstrips was created for Facebook users and is mainly focused on this platform, Bitmoji covers most of the social media territory. You can use your comic avatar and personalized stickers on Snapchat, Facebook, Messenger, Slack, Gmail, and any other communication platform that allows you to copy and paste.

Create your own Bitmoji

To get started with Bitmoji, you need to download the app first (available for both iOS and AndroidBitmoji download options for iMessage and Chrome web browser on the app website.

To create your own emoticon, log into the app from your device and follow these steps:

  1. Open the app and register.
  2. After logging in, go to Avatar and start making a cartoon version of yourself.
  3. The app will first ask you to take a selfie and then automatically provide you with a comic version of itself. But don’t worry, it’s very easy to set up. You can change the look of Bitmoji at any time by adding or removing certain features.
  4. After going through a few screens of emoji customization, you will have a complete cartoon version of yourself, ready to use in messages and snapshots.

Once you’ve saved your Bitmoji, you can start using it on Snapchat or any other chat app or platform. If at any point you decide to customize your cartoon avatar, just go to the Avatar Builder app and make changes.

Use Bitmoji on Snapchat

Since Snapchat owns Bitmoji, one of the most obvious platforms to use your avatar will be the Snapchat app. To do this, you need to sync your Snapchat and Bitmoji account.

One fun way to use your Bitmoji on the platform is to set it as a selfie on Snapchat.

  1. Sign in to your Snapchat account.
  2. Click on the ghost icon and select Create Bitmoji (you will be prompted to download the Bitmoji app if you don’t have one).
  3. Set Bitmoji as your avatar.

Again, you can customize it and choose which selfies your contacts will see in the app. On your profile page, scroll down to the Bitmoji section, then tap Select Selfie and choose from the range of emotions the app offers. You also have the ability to edit Bitmoji and even change clothes right here in the same section.

However, one of the funniest things to do with your Bitmoji is to use a 3D animated version of yourself in your shots. To use this feature and transform into a 3D animated cartoon, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the camera icon and open the Snapchat lenses.
  2. Make sure your camera is in rear-facing mode and not in selfie mode.
  3. If your Bitmoji account is synced with your Snapchat account, you will find the option to use your 3D Bitmoji among other lenses.

You can click and pinch your Bitmoji to resize it or place it elsewhere in the background. You can also apply all of the standard Snapchat filters to it before you save and send the snapshot.

Use Bitmoji on other social media platforms

As we mentioned above, Bitmoji is not built specifically for Snapchat. This means that you can use it as an avatar for any communication platform, be it your Gmail account or your messaging app

Once you create your Bitmoji, you will have access to hundreds of stickers with your character. Each of them is easy to download and use on social networks and chats.

Use Bitmoji Offline

One curious feature of Bitmoji is its merchandise store. When you open the Bitmoji app, click the market icon. You will be taken to the Zazzle online store, which manages the purchases you make in the app.

The Bitmoji store has all kinds of merchandise you can buy, from a simple T-shirt with your personalized sticker to a table tennis racket with your cartoon face. So the next time you’re struggling to find an unusual gift for a friend or family member, open the Bitmoji app and see if anything catches your eye.

Do you need your own Bitmoji?

Bitmoji is a great way to personalize your social media and get more of you online. However, if you prefer to hide any personal information about yourself (such as your physical appearance), be sure to research and use basic Snapchat privacy tips.
