How to Turn off “Show Simplified View†Pop-Up on Chrome on Android.
Chrome for Android has a feature called Simplified Browsing that appears every time you visit a webpage that supports it. Once enabled, it shows the webpage in a cleaner format, removing annoying formatting and ads, but more often than not, it’s just a distraction that we need to close every time.
Luckily, Chrome has a hidden Chrome flags setting to disable it. Best of all, you can only adjust the display when the page is not mobile optimized so that we can use this feature without getting distracted every time.
Disable the “Show Simplified View” popup in Chrome
To disable the Show Simplified View popup, we’ll use the Chrome flags.
As far as I know, Chrome Flags are experimental Chrome features that are still under development and have not been released in a stable version. It can be a hit or miss, but more often than not it will improve your browser by leaps and bounds.
You can access the flags feature by entering the following URL in the address bar of your Chrome browser. chrome: // flags /
You will see a long list of options, each with a drop-down menu that you can select from Default, Enabled, or Disabled. There are a lot of them, so the best way to find them is to use the search checkboxes box just below the address bar.
Find the Start Reading View option in the search bar. Or you can directly open this link to access the exact flag. This flag is only available in Chrome on Android, you cannot configure it from desktop or iOS devices. chrome: // flags / # read-mode heuristic
You can see the option is set to “Default” mode. By clicking on this option by default, you will see a popup with several options.
To completely disable the simplified view display feature, simply change the setting from Default to Never so that the feature disappears altogether.
But if you want to use this feature on web pages that are not optimized for mobile devices. You can set it to “Articles not optimized for mobile devices” so that the pop-up appears only when needed. In my opinion, Chrome is really good at finding webpages that are not mobile optimized and gives you a handy feature.
After selecting the checkbox, you will be prompted to re-launch the browser to activate it, which will close Chrome and reopen, adding the changes to the browser.
Now you will no longer receive pop-ups that say “Show Simplified View” on every web page.
Packaging
While there are several other options such as “All Articles” and “With Structured Article Markup”, they are completely pointless as they just pop up on every web page that is an article or has article outline markup, which is what the mode the default already does.
