There is no built-in app or way to turn videos into Live Photos on your iPhone or iPad.
Some of the best third party apps you can use include intoLive, Video to Live Photo, TurnLive, and VideoToLive.
Note. Live Photos are available on iPhone 6s or later, iPad Air (3rd rd generation), iPad (5 th generation), iPad Pro (2016 or later), and iPad mini (5 th generation).
In this tutorial, we’ll be using the intoLive app. The free version of the app includes basic features, but you can get the Pro version to access advanced features and editing tools.
- Download and install the intoLive app from the App Store.
- Start the intoLive application and grant the necessary permissions to your photo library. You will see all the files in your gallery or camera roll, sorted by type. From here, you can select the video you want to convert to live photo.
Note. If you use the free version of the app, you can create live photos up to five seconds long. If you need a longer video, the Pro version allows you to create videos up to 30 seconds in length.
- On the video editing page, use the slider to crop the video to the part you want to turn into a live photo.
- You can also change the video speed, apply filters and repeat loops. However, some options are not available for paid access in the Pro version.
- When you are finished editing your video, click “Do” in the upper right corner.
- Select how many times you want the Live Photo to repeat.
- Give the application a few seconds to create a Live Photo, and then click Save Live Photo to the iPhone or iPad Camera Roll.
- From here you can open the Photos app, click on a new Live Photo and click Share.

- Then click “Install” and choose whether you want to use Live Photo on your home screen, lock screen, or both.
How to Turn a GIF into a Live Photo on iPhone or iPad
You can also turn your favorite GIF into a live photo, but you need a third party app. For this tutorial, we will be using the free GIPHY program with the most extensive library of GIFs, stickers and clips.
- Download and install GIPHY on your iPhone or iPad and launch the app.
- Select the GIF you want to turn into a Live Photo, tap the three vertical dots on the right side of the screen.
- Click Convert to Live Photo.
- Select full screen mode or screen size.
- A new live photo will be available in the Camera Roll folder. From here, you can set it as live wallpaper or background on your device home screen or lock screen.
