Powerpoint is a popular tool used to present and showcase a product or message. It comes with a variety of layouts, themes, and tools to help you create professional-looking presentations. What if you’re spending a lot of time creating a visually appealing and well-thought-out presentation and want to share it with someone who doesn’t have Microsoft Office?
The short answer is you can’t. However, if you turn it into a video, it can be viewed easily by most people on the Internet. Another benefit of converting Powerpoint to video is a great way to convert your content to another format. Video is quickly becoming an important part of a company’s digital marketing strategy.
Although Powerpoint is not marketed as a video tool, and there are many video tools, applications, and platforms available, you might be thinking, why would you use Powerpoint?
Here are some good reasons:
- As mentioned above, you can’t share your presentation with someone who doesn’t have Powerpoint installed on their computer.
- You have already done this. spent a lot of time creating a fully automated Powerpoint presentation and don’t want to start from scratch with video.
- Video creation is not part of your skill arsenal, and you don’t want to know how to use a new tool.
Fast and Easy Way
If your presentation has automatic timing, transitions and animations, you might be shocked to find out how easy it is to convert it to video.
- Open your Powerpoint presentation.
- Click File, select Save As, and select MPEG-4 Video (* .mp4) from the drop-down menu. (available in Powerpoint 2010 and later).
Too easy? This is actually the case. But keep in mind that this only works for presentations that are already fully configured and ready to be shown to viewers.

- Another way to convert to a video file is to click File, select Export, and Create Video.
Use the export option
- Another way to convert to a video file is to click File , choose Export , and click in > Create a video .
- You can choose several options that will affect the quality of the final video. Start by choosing quality.
Your choice will affect the clarity, resolution and size of the video file. The higher the quality, the larger the file.
I usually use Full HD (1080p), but if your internet upload speed is slow or file size is an issue, HD (720p) will also produce high definition HD videos.
Choose Appointments
The next option determines how long each slide stays on screen or the length of your video.
- If you select “Do not use recorded times and voice-overs”, each slide will be displayed at the same time. With this option, you can choose the number of seconds each side should stay before moving on to the next.
- Now click “Create Video” and save the file to your computer.
- Find the location where you saved the video and play it. It will open in your default video player or app. The slides will play for the time you set.
- You can do this to allow viewers to read slides with longer text. This can be achieved by selecting a different time setting. Select Recording Time & Voiceover.
- This option allows you to adjust the duration of each slide in the video and allows you to record a voiceover. If you want to record voiceover, you have several options. To change the microphone, open the settings.
- You can also enable the block where you record video by selecting the Camera option in the settings shown above.
- Press the red Record button to start dubbing. Powerpoint will give you a few seconds to get ready as it counts down 3, 2, 1.
- While you are recording your voice, PowerPoint will also record the time. The time you spend on each slide before moving on to the next determines the time.
- Use the arrow keys to move to the next slide. When you reach the end, the “X†will disappear from the recording screen. You will then be returned to the settings page with the time recorded.
- Click Create Video and save it to your computer. Each slide in your video will now last as long as you need to talk about it while recording.
How to set up Powerpoint presentations with transitions, animations, and timings
If you’d rather set animations, timings, and transitions before creating your video, here are some examples of how to do this. Thus, you can use the quick and easy way to convert it to video described above.
What are transitions?
Have you ever seen a Powerpoint presentation that does something flashy or eye-catching between slides? These special effects are called transitions.
There are three categories of transitions that you can use in your presentation. These include:
- Thin: Easy and simple movement from one slide to another.
- Exciting: more complex and more interesting than subtle.
- Dynamic: When used between two slides that are similar in layout, this transition only moves placeholders, not slides.
Used in moderation, transitions can add a professional and visually appealing effect to your presentation.
If you use too many transitions, the results can be confusing, unstable, and distracting.
Apply Transition
- Select the slide in the slide navigation bar where you want to apply the transition. This slide will appear after the transition you selected.
- Click Transitions at the top of the navigation. Note that the default is No. Click Advanced or the down arrow to view all available options.
When you click a transition, you automatically see a preview of how it will look if selected. You can use a transition for a single slide, or you can click Apply to All to use the same transition for all slides in your presentation.
Adjust the direction of the transition
Each transition has different effect options.
- To select the one you want to use, click Effect Options, select one, and watch Powerpoint automatically show you a preview of your selection.
Change the duration of a transition
- Select the slide you want to change the time for and find the Duration field. In this example, the side is set to 01.00.
- Let’s increase the time to 0.025 to make the transition a little slower. You can only set the duration for the selected slide.
- Click Apply To All to use the same transition duration for all slides.
Add Sound to Transition
- Click the drop-down menu next to Sound in the top navigation bar. Select a sound and watch it.
- To preview sounds, click Slide Show in the top navigation bar and then From Current Slide.
How to go to the next slide
If you are giving a live presentation in front of an audience, you usually press the spacebar or click your mouse to go to the next slide.
However, since we are converting the presentation to video, you will want to use the Advance Slides setting to automate the process.
- Now you want to uncheck (uncheck) the checkbox next to the Mouse Click button. In the After field, enter the length of time that the slide will be displayed before moving to the next. In the example above, the slide duration is 00:03:36.
Custom animation
Animation in Powerpoint adds movement to various elements of a presentation. The goal is to draw attention to key points such as specific text, shapes, tables, images, and other objects.
Using animation in Powerpoint videos makes them more interesting and engaging. Some of the types of movement you can add to your slides are:
- Change the color or size of an image or text.
- Causes the appearance or disappearance of an image.
- Move the object on the slide.
Add Animation

- When clicked, starts the animation when the slide is clicked.
- With Previous starts the animation at the same time as the previous animation on the previous slide.
- After Previous will play it right after the previous animation has finished.
Tap Duration to set how long you want the animation to last. If you want to add a delay before the animation starts, use the Delay option.
To add additional effects, click Add Animation and select the one you want to use. If you want to change the order in which the animation appears on the slide, click the animation marker.
- Select Move Earlier or Move Later to change the order in which the animation appears in the sequence.
Add animation to group
- Press control on your keyboard and select the objects you want to include in the group.
- Then click Format Shape, then Group and Group again.
- Then select “Animation” and select the one you want to use.
Text Animation
- Select the text where you want to add animation.
- Click Add Animation and select an option. You will see it in the animation panel on the right.
- The next step is to click the dropdown menu next to the animation you just added. This is another place where you can decide when you want to start. Select Start On Click, Start From Previous, or Start After Previous.
- Click the drop-down menu next to the text animation again and this time select Effect Options.
This is where you set the direction, time, and other specific animation parameters.
Many special effects can be added to Powerpoint. Over time, you will be able to create an engaging presentation using automatic animations and transition times.
After you finish following the above steps, you can use the easy method outlined at the beginning of this content to turn your Powerpoint presentation into video. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a compelling, engaging, and visually appealing video to share with others.
