How to Transfer Data from One Google Account to Another?.
There are times when we want to change our Google account for a variety of reasons, mainly because our email ID might look funny, confusing, awkward, or even take too long to remember. Since we cannot change the Gmail ID, all we can do is create a new Google account, but most of the data such as contacts, emails, photos, files from your old account will not be transferred, at least , not automatically.
However, there is a way to manually transfer as much account data as possible. Fair warning: uploading can take hours or even days, depending on the size of your account data. However, the actual data transfer will only take a few hours. There are also a few details that you need to know about before getting started.
- There is no automatic process that magically transfers all of your data. You need to manually export and import data to each Google service.
- Third-party applications that you signed in to Google will not work. You can manually change this in the app settings.
- You can only transfer data such as contacts, email, Calander events, Drive files, photos, bookmarks, etc. However, you cannot transfer data such as YouTube channels to which you subscribed, Tasks, Posts, Playlists, etc.
- Apps, movies, music, books, etc. that you purchased using the Google Play app will not be transferred, including your Google Play balance.
- There are several workarounds for your YouTube channel, AdSense, Analytics, etc. that allow you to migrate, we’ll come back to that later in this article.
Things to know before transferring data
Transfer data from one G Suite account to another
First of all, if you have a G Suite account, you can transfer data to your new G Suite account using a three-step automated process. If you don’t know about G Suite, an email like adam@free-online-converters.com is probably a G Suite address, while adam@gmail.com is probably a regular account.
If you are using a regular account, proceed to the next step.
Your G Suite account data is transferred using the third-party Vault me app, which can be accessed from any web browser. If you are worried about using a third-party application in your mail, I highly recommend that you check their Privacy Policy page before starting.
- Create a new Google G Suite account,
- Open Vault me in a web browser, sign in with your OLD ID in the Change From section and your NEW ID in the Change to,
- Choose which data you want to transfer and start copying.
The copying process may take time depending on the size of the data. This process will run on the server, so you can shut down your computer and come back later. It also copies your entire data organization, including folders and labels. You will receive an email with both the old and the new mailing ID after the process is complete.
Transfer data from one Google account to another
The previous method only works for G Suite users. Unfortunately, there is no automated process if you have a regular Google account. You will have to do everything manually. Let’s get down to business.
First, create a new Google account. Take the time and choose it wisely because you know changing your Gmail ID often is not an easy process.
Then open your old Google account in a new tab. Here we need to download the data associated with your Google account, this is known as the Google Takeout Archive and you can include everything in it. Sign in to your old Google account, go to Account Settings Data & Personalization Upload your data under Upload or Delete. Alternatively, you can click this link to go directly to the last page.
This page will show you all the data associated with your old account, from auto-complete, location history, shopping list, to your contacts. Check all the data you want to transfer and click the Next Step button.
Select the file type “Zip”, choose a download location and click “Create Export”. If you have a lot of data on Google, it can take a few days.
After the export is complete, download and extract the zip file to your computer. This Google Takeout Archive has all the data you need to seamlessly migrate to your new Google account. After you unzip the zip, you can find the Google Takeout Archive folder like this one.
We then need to upload this data to a new Google account. However, since Google does not allow all data to be imported at once, you will have to import it into each service separately.
Import contacts to new Google account
Let’s start with contacts. In your new Google account, go to Google Contacts, click Import on the left sidebar. Select the “.vcf” file in the Contacts folder of the Google Takeout archive. All your contacts will be imported to the new account. Easy.
Import emails to a new Gmail account
Technically, the Google Takeout Archive contains all the emails and contact information from your old account, but you’ll have to use Thunderbird to import all of that data. I find this alternative method easier, as you can simply import emails into your new Gmail account from the Gmail settings page.
To import emails to your new Gmail account, open Gmail in your web browser and sign in to your new Google account. Click the Settings button in the upper right corner Accounts & Import Import Mail & Contacts. A pop-up window will ask you to sign in and sign in to your old account. Once you do that, it syncs all emails, contacts, etc. with your new Gmail account. You will also receive emails to both your old and new account over the next 30 days. You can of course disable this option in Settings.
Import files from Google Drive
The files are loaded as-is from the old Google Drive account and also preserve the hierarchy. This makes it easier to import data from your old Drive account into a new account.
To import files from Drive, sign in to your Drive account associated with your new Google account. Click Create in the upper left corner Upload Folder and select the Drive folder in the Google Takeout archive. All your old files will be uploaded to your new account. It’s simple, right?
Importing calendar events and reminders
To import calendar events and reminders, go to Google Calendar in your new account Settings in the upper right corner Import and Export and select the calendar file in the Google Takeout archive. Click the Import button and all of your events, reminders, birthdays, goals, etc. will appear in your new account.

Import bookmarks in Chrome browser
Further bookmarks for browsers. I rely on them all day while watching. To import bookmarks to a new account, simply open your browser click the Options button in the upper right corner Bookmarks Import bookmarks and settings. select the document bookmarks file from the dropdown menu and upload the file to Google Takeout archive.
The Google Takeout Archive only downloads bookmarks from the Chrome browser. Therefore, if you are using any other browser, it is best to export your bookmarks manually and then import them into your current browser.
You can also import autofill data from your browser. Go to browser settings passwords under Autocomplete, click on import and select autocomplete files in the Chrome folder of the Google Takeout archive. If the import function is not available on the autocomplete page, enable the import password flag in the Chrome flags.
