How to Transcribe Google Meet Calls to Google Docs.While meeting notes are great for capturing the details of what’s being discussed, meeting transcripts are even better. With it, you can see the date and participants, as well as who said what during your meeting.Using Google Workspace, you can easily transcribe Google Meet calls to Google Docs. From there, simply open the document, upload it, or share it with those who weren’t able to attend.

About Google Meet Transcriptions

Please read the following requirements and details before proceeding with Google Meet transcription.

You must have a supported version of Google Workspace: Business Standard or Plus, Enterprise, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, or Education Plus.
This feature can only be used on Google Meet on desktop or computer, not on the mobile app.
The decryption feature is enabled in Google Workspace by default; however, you will need to run it for every meeting (described below).
To allow others to use the decrypt feature, you must enable Google Drive and grant permission to create new files in Drive for those users. Log in to the Google adminconsole and navigate to the Applications > Google Workspace> Disk and Documents to view or enable these settings.

Transcriptions are automatically saved to the Meet Recordings folder in Google Drive, so there must be enough free space in Drive for the transcriptions.
The meeting organizer, transcript initiator, and meeting organizers automatically have access to edit the transcript document. However, if the meeting has less than 200 invitees, everyone has edit access.

Start Transcription During a Google Meet Meeting

When you’re ready to transcribe a Google Meet meeting, it only takes a few steps. You can also let your participants know before the meeting that you will be transcribing it.

Select the Actions icon (shapes) in the lower right corner and select Transcripts in the sidebar.

Select Start decoding on the next screen.

Read the pop-up to notify participants that you are recording a meeting and select Start to continue.

When your participants go to the screen to join the meeting, they will see a message that the conversation is being transcribed.

In addition, everyone should see the Transcription icon in the upper left corner of the meeting window.

To stop transcription at any time during the meeting, select Actions > Transcripts and select Stop transcription. You don’t have to stop transcription when the meeting ends. You can simply leave the meeting as usual and the transcript will be saved automatically.

Access Google Meet Transcripts

You have several different ways to access the Google Meet transcript. You can open it using an email link, a calendar event, or directly from Google Drive or Google Docs.Here are a few things to keep in mind:

In most cases, you can access the transcript within a few hours of the end of the meeting; however, it may take up to 24 hours.
Remember that the transcript is generated on a computer, so you may see slight errors.

Access transcript via email

After the meeting, you will receive an email on your connected Gmail account with a transcript, as will the organizer, co-host, and transcript initiator. You can then either select an attachment or a link to open the transcript in Google Docs.

Google Calendar Access Transcript

If the meeting was arranged using Google Calendar, the transcript is conveniently attached to a calendar event with the same name as the event.If you select a meeting on the main Google Calendar page, you’ll see a transcript in the Attachments section. If you open the event details page, you will see a transcript attached to the Description section. Select an attachment to open the transcript in Google Docs.Note. For recurring appointments, the transcription is attached to the calendar event each time.

Access the transcript in Google Drive

You can also visit Google Drive to open the transcript document. If you didn’t set up the meeting through Google Calendar, the file name will be the meeting code with the date and time.When you sign in to Google Drive, the transcript may appear in the Featured section at the top of My Drive. . Alternatively, open the Meet Recordings folder and select a transcript to open it in Google Docs. You can also use the search feature or one of these ways to find a file in Google Drive.

Accessing the transcript in Google Docs

Finally, you will see the transcript right in Google Docs and can open it from there.Log in to Google Docs and you’ll see the transcript at the top when sorted by date. Optionally, you can use the Search box at the top. Enter “transcript” and select a document from the results.

Disable Transcriptions in Google Workspace

If you want to disable the decrypt feature later, you can disable it if you have any of the supported Google Workspace plans other than Business Standard.Log in to the Google Admin console and go to Applications > Google Workspace > Google Meet.
