Even though Roku has features like screen mirroring, customizable themes, smart app support, and other hidden features. It lacks the main function – screenshot. While you can always use an external capture card, there is a hidden feature that is exclusively for developers and you will have to take some extra steps to take a screenshot of the Roku. Let’s see how it works.
Before we start, there are several limitations to this process. For example, you can only take a screenshot when you are on a channel that you uploaded unpublished. You will not be able to take screenshots of everything that is not downloaded.
Take a screenshot on Roku
To get started, we need to first enable Dev Tools on Roku. To do this, take your Roku remote and press the following keys to open the secret menu. Press Home x3 Up x2 Right Left Right Left Right
Here x means how many times you need to click this button. For example, pressing Home x3 means pressing the Home button three times, and so on.
You will see the following screen with two options; Enable Installer and Restart and Cancel. Choose the first option and configure the server details such as username and password. Once completed, Roku will prompt you to restart your device and let the Roku device boot.

Now open a web browser on your computer (connected to the same Wi-Fi network) and enter the IP address of the Roku device to login, it will prompt you for your credentials before letting you in. If you don’t know how to find out the IP address of a Roku device, you can use apps like Fing (iOS, Android) or Wireless Network Watcher for Windows.
After logging in, click on “Utilities” in the upper right corner.
Scroll down and you will find the actions you can take in this window. You can check the package, download the app, view the profiling data, and of course, take a screenshot. Press a button and it will capture whatever is currently displayed on your Roku screen.

Here is a screenshot of your Roku device. You can now download it to your computer by right-clicking the image and choosing Save As. The resolution is the same as your Roku native resolution, in our case it was 1280x720p, JPG for Roku Express 2017.

This was a quick guide to taking a screenshot of your Roku device. Of course, this is far from ideal compared to other devices, but it still works.
Likewise, there is no way to record Roku screen unlike Firestick or Android TV, where you can use third party screen recorder apps. The only job of recording a screencast on Roku is using external hardware such as a capture card. We are using the Elgato Game Capture Card HD60 S. It supports 1080p @ 60fps.
