How to Stop Infinite Scrolling for Certain Website .
Like it or not, more and more blogs and even popular sites like Facebook and Tumbler are using infinite scrolling. For the uninformed, infinite scrolling is a technique implemented by the website owner to continuously load the next page as the user scrolls down the page.
While infinite scrolling does keep visitors on the site, resulting in more page views, it doesn’t always provide a user experience. There are several problems with infinite scrolling.
- Too much RAM.
- Unable to access static links (such as “About Us” or “Contact Us”) in the footer.
- The user is left with a sense of loss of control

You can now always turn off the internet to stop infinite scrolling, but that means your active download running in the background will also stop. Alternatively, you can also use extensions like Kill Infinite Scroll (Firefox), but if you, like me, don’t prefer to install too many extensions, that will be excluded from the list too.
Luckily there is an easy way to stop infinite scrolling, all you have to do is turn off javascript for those specific websites. One caveat: disabling Javascript can also disable the functionality of other sites.
However, different browsers have different methods for disabling Javascript. For this example we will take Google Chrome as it has the largest market share.
Disable Javascript for a specific website
- Click the padlock next to the website URL.
- Select Site Settings from the drop-down menu.
- A new window will open. open in chrome preferences
- Click the drop-down menu next to Javascript and change the permission to Block.
- Return to the web page and refresh it.
To disable Javascript in Google Chrome for Android, click the menu button Preferences Site Settings JavaScript Uncheck Enable JavaScript. Unfortunately, this will disable Javascript for all sites, not for a specific site.
Closing words
While infinite scrolling has benefits for some websites (e.g. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook) that dynamically generate personalized content, other blogs that only use it to increase their page views should think twice before using it. Or at the very least, these blogs might not put static links (such as “About Us” or “Contact Us”) in the footer.
If you’re a webmaster, consider using pagination or even slideshows instead of endless scrolling. And if you are a user, you can either turn off Javascript on this website, or better yet, give feedback to the site owner.
