The Fire Stick is based on Android, but it’s a completely different experience. You get built-in Alexa support right out of the box, it pairs well with your other Alexa devices, offers a better user experience, and runs Android apps just like Android TV. If you don’t know how to install apps on the Fire Stick, don’t worry. I’ve compiled a list of all the ways to install an app on the Fire TV Stick. Let’s start.
How to Sideload Apps on Firestick
1. Ask Alexa
The easiest way to install apps on your Fire Stick is to politely ask Alex. You can, of course, manually install apps using the onscreen keyboard by selecting the magnifying glass (at the far left end of the menu) and typing in the name of the app you want to install.
But talking to Aleca is much easier. Just press and hold the Alexa button on the Firestick to speak. For example, you can say “Alexa, search for the [application name] app,†and then Alexa will show you a set of results, click the Get button next to the search result to install the app. The only caveat when using this method is that Alexa only provides you with results from the Amazon App Store, which includes popular apps like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Spotify, etc.

2. Amazon App Store
Using Alexa is fine, but if you want more control and power, you can visit the App Store on your Fire Stick.
Go to the home screen of your Fire TV device and press directly on the remote until you reach the Apps section. You will see a grid of all the apps available on Firestick and Fire TV. Scroll down and use the left and right arrow keys on your remote to navigate between apps. Select the applications you want to install by pressing the center button on the remote control, then press Select, press the button in the center of the navigation bar.

3. Amazon website usage
Another way to install applications on Firestick is from your computer.
Just make sure you are signed in to the same Amazon account on your computer as you signed in to Firestick. Then use your computer to go to the Amazon App Store. This link will automatically redirect you to your country directory.
and buy apps directly from your Amazon account. Your Fire Stick will automatically install these apps after a few minutes. Once the page has loaded, scroll down or use the search to find the app you want to install and click on it. Click the drop-down list directly below the Deliver To heading, select your firestick, and click Get to install it. Wait a few seconds and the application will load in the Applications section of the Firestick.
4. Easy fire tools
An easy way to install Android apps from your phone to Amazon Firestick is by using an app called Easy Fire Tools. As long as both your Firestick and Android smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, you can easily transfer apps from your phone to Firestick over Wi-Fi using this app.
Although keep in mind, since most Android apps are not optimized for the big screen, not every app will scale well from your phone’s portrait orientation to your TV’s landscape orientation. This is how it works.
To get started, go to Developer Options in the Fire TV Stick settings and enable ADB debugging and apps from unknown sources.
Then install the Easy-Fire Tools app on your Android and open it. It will show you a list of all applications installed on your phone. Then click the detect button at the top as shown in the image below. It will automatically detect all Fire Stick devices on the network, click to select the Fire Stick of your choice.
Establish a connection by clicking the “Connect” button in the upper right corner. You will see the message “Debugging ADB” on the TV. Accept it to turn it on and the Fire Stick is ready to receive apps from your smartphone.
Once connected, you can transfer applications that are already installed on your phone or those that you downloaded as APK files. Click on the filename or APK and hit yes at the prompt and you will see the app has been transferred and also installed on your Fire Stick.
5. Playing citrus
Easy Fire Tools works great, but setting it up isn’t an easy task, and if you’re looking for something that Plug and Play supports, I recommend CetusPlay. Not only does it let you download unpublished apps to your Fire TV Stick like Easy Fire Tools, but it also gives you a lot of advanced features like streaming pictures, videos, movies, and more with virtually no lag. You can also stream long URLs to the Fire Stick using the app.
For this to work, simply install CetusPlay on your Android phone from the Play Store. And, as with simple Firetools, you need to enable “ADB Debugging” and “Apps from Unknown Sources” by going to Developer Options in the Fire TV Stick settings. Now go back to your phone and open the newly installed CetusPlay app. It will automatically pick up all Firesticks (or even Android TVs or Smart TVs) on your network. Click on your Firestick name and a pop-up will appear on your Firestick to confirm the connection, click Allow and enter the code you see on your TV and you’re done. You will now be able to control your Firestick with the remote control built into the CetusPlay app. Swiping right on an app will open up additional options for sending files, photos, URLs, and of course apps from your phone to Firestick directly.

6. Aptoide TV
The problem with downloading unpublished apps is that there is no way to automatically update apps on the Fire Stick. Use Aptoide TV, a Play Store replacement for your Fire TV, it allows you to install and keep all apps that are not in the Amazon App Store up to date.
Although Aptoide TV app is fully optimized for Fire TV Stick / 4K, you cannot find it in Play Store or Amazon Apps Store. You will need to use Easy Fire Tools to install it on the Fire Stick.
To do this, go to the Aptoide TV website and download the APK file to your smartphone. Then use Easy Fire Tools to install the app on your Fire Stick. Now you can use Aptoide TV app to install any other app.

7. USB drive
If all else fails, you can still download apps to the Fire Stick from a USB drive. The Fire TV Stick supports USB input, the only requirement to unlock this feature is a $ 7 Micro USB CableOTG 2-in-1 from Amazon that allows you to insert a USB drive into your Fire TV Stick.
Connect the USB stick to the USB host cable and browse the contents of the drive using File Explorer. Tap the APK to install it on the Fire Stick. Simple enough?
8. Using Google Drive
The previous method was a bit awkward as it required both a USB OTG adapter and a USB stick. If you don’t have access to them, you can also use cloud services like Google Drive to transfer APKs from your phone or PC to your Fire Stick or Fire TV.
Start by downloading the APK from APKmirror to your phone or PC. We recommend APKmirror because it is from the reputable Android police and is malware-free. However, finding the correct download is still a little confusing.
For example, after you download the APK to your Android, I want the Instagram app to be on my Fire Stick.
Once you’ve downloaded the APK, upload it to your Google Drive account and go to your streaming device. Open File Commander or any other cloud-enabled file manager. Now log in with the same Google account that has the APK.
You should see the APK file and then download it. Install them after download is complete.
That’s it, an enhanced version of Instagram on Android TV. While this may sound simple, it is too much work in my opinion, especially when you have simpler methods as shown above.
Install Google Drive
Packaging
These were several methods that you can use to install applications on your Fire Stick. Some methods, like Easy Fire Tools and Aptoide TV, require a different smartphone to install apps, while other methods like Alexa and Amazon App Store are pretty straightforward. The bottom line is that the Fire Stick is more than just a streaming device and you should be able to take full advantage of what you paid for. What do you think of these methods? Let me know in the comments below if you have a better way to install apps on your Fire Stick.
