How to Setup Apple TV 4K for the First Time

How to Setup Apple TV 4K for the First Time.

So I just got my shiny new Apple TV 4K and was in a hurry to set it up as quickly as possible so I can watch these new 4K HDR movies on my 4K TV! It’s also much faster and better than the 2nd generation Apple TV, which I refused to update until Apple switched to 4K support.

In this article, I’ll walk you through all the steps to set up your new Apple TV 4K so you can start enjoying your new ultra-high definition content. The first step is to plug it in, connect to your TV with an HDMI cable, and connect to the internet with an Ethernet cable. You will definitely want to use a wired cable for your wireless connection as streaming 4K content will require a lot of bandwidth.

Set up Apple TV 4K

When you turn on your TV and change the input source to HDMI for Apple TV 4K, you should see a message on how to pair the remote with your Apple TV 4K.

According to the instructions, you must press and hold the Menu and + buttons at the same time, but I only pressed the large button at the top a few times and it connected.

Then you will need to select the language that you want to use on the device. After that, you will need to select a region. It should automatically select the country you are in based on your IP address.

On the next screen, you can choose whether to use Siri and Dictation. It’s one of the defining features of devices, so if you don’t turn it on, you won’t get the full benefits of Apple TV 4K.

You will then be asked if you want to set up your device manually or via iPhone or iPad. It’s much easier to use a device if you already have one, so select Set Up With Device. The manual method will require you to enter or dictate your Apple ID and password.

On the next screen, it will tell you how to connect your iPhone or iPad to Apple TV 4K so it can be set up automatically. You will need to unlock your phone, connect it to Wi-Fi, turn on Bluetooth, and then bring it to your Apple TV 4K.

When you do, a pop-up dialog box with a big Install button will automatically appear on your device. Click on it and Apple TV will automatically set up your Apple ID or accounts.

You will see a message on the TV screen that the device is being configured. This step took me a few minutes, so you’ll have to be patient.

After completing the setup process, you will be asked if you would like to request a password for additional purchases after the initial purchase.

Next, you’ll want to log into your TV provider if you have a cable TV subscription. Otherwise, you can simply skip this step.

You will then be prompted to turn location services on or off on Apple TV. I’m not sure how useful this is on a device like the Apple TV, but I just turned it on.

Then you can choose if you want to download 4K HD video screensavers for your Apple TV. I bought the 64GB version and turned it on as it looks great on a 4K TV.

Finally, you will be asked if you want to enable analytics on the device or not. This is mainly done so that Apple can see how the device is being used and receive information about errors and crashes.

That’s all! You should now see the main Apple TV OS interface with the App Store, TV app, music app, and more.

I will write more articles on how to use Apple TV 4K soon, but for now, sit back and watch a 4K movie on your new Apple TV!
