Google Analytics has always been one of the most popular tools that website owners use to track their web traffic.
Creating a new website in Google Analytics is not as easy as it should be. However, by following the steps below, you can enable Analytics tracking on your website in less than 30 minutes.
Set up your Google Analytics site
To set up your website in Google Analytics, you need to add the website in the Google Analytics Administration.
- First, sign in to the Google Marketing Platform with your Google account. In your dashboard, select Analytics.
- After opening Google Analytics, select “Admin” at the bottom of the left navigation menu.
You will have several options depending on how many websites you want to manage in Google Analytics. You can have a maximum of 4 Google Analytics accounts, and each account has up to 50 web properties, so keep this in mind when organizing your web properties.
- You can use one account to manage multiple websites. If you don’t have Google Analytics accounts yet, select Create Account. Give the account a name that describes your internet company or organization. Optionally, you can create a single account for the website and give it the same name as that website.
- After creating an account, go back to the Google Analytics administration, select the created account and select “Create Resource”.
- On the next screen, select Internet under the New property.
- Scroll down the page and select Continue.
- On the next screen, give your new website a name in the Website Name field, enter the URL in the website URL. select the correct industry category and finally set the reporting time zone.
Note. Be sure to select “https” if SSL is enabled on your website.
- Click Create to finish.
Add Google Analytics Tracking Code to Your Website
Once Google Analytics has successfully created your new website resource, you will see a Tracking ID, which represents the code that Analytics will use to log all your website traffic.

- Below the tracking ID, you will see a large text box under the global site tag that contains a script that you need to install on every page your website for Google. Analytics tracking works.
Ideally, you need to insert it into
tags on every page. Copy the script into this field and save it in Notepad or some other place where you won’t lose it.If you are using a WordPress website, adding this script is very easy.
- Open your website’s WordPress dashboard, select Appearance from the left navigation menu, and select Theme Editor from the menu.
Typically, most WordPress themes include a theme header (header.php). In the theme editor window, select it from the list of theme files.
In the editor window, find the
tag and paste the Google Analytics text after it.- At the bottom of the page, click the Update File button.
- If you are using a CDN plugin, be sure to clear the CDN completely. This ensures that all browsers that cache your site get the latest version, including the new Google Analytics script.
If you are not using a WordPress site, you just need to take a similar approach to make sure the Google Analytics script is included in the
tags on every page of your site.When you’re done, you should see your new website listed in the Google Analytics account you created.
Advanced Analytics Features
There are several Google Analytics tracking features that are not enabled by default when you first install the tracking code. However, these features can provide much more informative information about the visitors who come to your site.
- To see these features, log into your Google Analytics account, go to the Administration section and open the account that you ‘ve created.
- Select a property for the generated website and select Resource Options.
If you scroll down the Resource Options window, you will see several options to consider. These are additional features that you can enable.
- Scroll down to the Advertising Features section and under Enable Demographics and Interest Reports, set the setting to ON.
This allows you to create additional reports in Google Analytics that tell you the age, gender and interests of the visitors who come to your site.
This information can be extremely helpful in customizing your site for the interests and demographics of most of your visitors.
- Then scroll down to the Search Console section and select Adjust Search Console.
This is a quick way to ensure that Google Search Console data is linked to a Google Analytics account for the same property. After enabling this feature, you can see Search Console data in Google Analytics reports.
- To enable this, on the Search Console settings page, click the Add link.
You will see a page with all the websites included in your Search Console account that you can link to the Analytics property you just created.
If you’ve just created your website and have never added it to Google Search Console, you need to do this before you can link it to Google Analytics.
- To do this, select Add site to Search Console. This is beyond the scope of this article, but the process is pretty simple.
- In the Google Search Console, simply use the site dropdown and scroll down to select Add Property. Follow the steps to set up your domain in Google Search Console.
- After verification, the next time you visit the same Google Analytics page above, you will see your new domain listed. You can then select it to link to a Google Analytics account for the same website.
- The last feature you want to enable in your Google Analytics property settings is at the bottom of the property settings page. In the User Analysis section, you will see the Include User Metric in Reports option.
This is a new feature in which Google uses its own cookies on users’ browsers to get a more accurate picture of the number of visitors. This reduces errors and gives you a more accurate idea of ??how many users are actually visiting your site and what pages they are visiting.
You now have Google Analytics enabled for your site and all advanced features enabled. Keep visiting the property page in Google Analytics for your site and in a couple of days you will start seeing data coming from all of your site’s statistics.
