How To Set Up Google Chrome Browser Sync

Posted on October 5, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on How To Set Up Google Chrome Browser Sync

Google Chrome Sync makes it easy to use the browser across multiple devices. All of your information is stored in your Google account and then used for every instance of Chrome that is signed into the same account.

If you have a new computer, Chrome sync is useful so that none of your bookmarks get lost during the transition. You can also set up Chrome sync between your phone and computer to access saved passwords, history, and more.

How To Set Up Google Chrome Browser Sync

Let’s see why someone can set up Chrome sync and how easy it is.

Why should you set up Chrome Sync

If you’ve ever lost a bookmark or forgot the password that you saved in Chrome a few years ago, you need to set up Google Chrome sync. This is the fastest, easiest and most reliable way to save all your Chrome information to your Google account in case something happens to a local copy on your computer or phone.

Of course, Chrome sync comes in handy in other situations as well, for example, if your computer suddenly crashes, you lose your laptop, etc. You don’t need to worry about finding all your stored information or hope that at some point you made a manual backup. Everything in your Google account.

Another reason Chrome sync is so useful is if you want to use the browser across multiple devices. With Chrome sync turned on, you can view all of your desktop bookmarks from your phone, keep reading what’s open on another device, auto-fill in your account information, use the same payment methods, and sync settings and other options.

When you’re signed into Chrome with sync configured, you’ll be automatically signed into all of your Google services like Google Photos, Gmail, YouTube, and more

Important reminders

Chrome sync is a great feature for the reasons outlined above. It is easy to implement and works great for most situations. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, don’t sync Chrome with your Google account if you’re on a public computer. Synchronization should be reserved for your devices to which you will have constant access. Signing in to public computers and other shared devices is best done in incognito mode, otherwise you risk accessing your passwords, payment details, and other personal information to someone else.

If you are using Chrome sync on your computer, you can turn off syncing of certain items by opening the sync settings in chrome: // settings / syncSetup / advanced. Here you can turn off syncing of apps, bookmarks, extensions, history, settings, themes, open tabs, passwords, addresses, phone numbers and / or payment methods.

The syncSetup page is designed to encrypt the data being synchronized. Passwords are encrypted by default with your Google information, but instead, you can encrypt everything with a custom passphrase so that even Google can’t see it.

Mobile users can do the same in Chrome settings; go to Google sync and services> Manage sync to turn off sync for anything you want. Here you can also control the encryption parameter.

Disabling Chrome sync is even easier than enabling it. Open Chrome settings and select Disable next to the sync indicator. If you’re using the Chrome app, go to the Sync & Google Services section in Settings, and then click the button next to Sync Chrome Data.

Syncing your devices with a Google account is only relevant in the Chrome browser. This means that you cannot log into Firefox and Chrome and expect bookmarks and other settings to be passed between them. However, bookmarks are especially easy to move between browsers; see how to transfer bookmarks from Firefox to Chrome for an example.

Tip: Other web browsers have the same sync capabilities as Chrome, including Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Yandex
