How To Set Up An AFK Channel On Discord.
Your Discord server may be slow and unresponsive if there are many people on the server at the same time. It might make sense to temporarily kick out inactive users, but there is a better way – the AFK channel. You can move inactive users to the AKF channel, where users just stay on it and cannot send text messages or chat. Let’s set up an AFK Discord channel.
The term AFK, short for Away from Keyboard, refers to the state of a Discord user who is not actively using Discord or his computer, for that matter. However, people who play and use Discord in the background are not considered inactive users. We only want to move completely inactive users to the AFK channel.
Create an AFK channel on Discord
To create an AFK channel, you first need to create a channel. While you can convert an existing voice channel to an AFK channel, it is best to create a separate channel just for this purpose. Open Discord and select a server. You can only create an AFK channel if you are the server administrator.
Now click on the channel name and click on “Create Channel”. Also keep in mind that you can only convert voice channels to AFK channel. So, you need to start by creating a voice channel.

Select the Voice Channel option and give it an appropriate name so that people can understand that this is an AFK channel. For example, I used the title Dead Channel (AFK).
You have successfully created a channel, now you just need to convert this channel to AFK channel. To do this, click your server name and click server settings.
In the overview section, scroll down and you will find the AFK channel option.
Open the dropdown list and select the channel you just created.
Now set the AFK timeout. If a person is inactive for longer than the AFK timeout, they will be moved to that channel. I usually prefer 5 minutes, but if there are more people who are role-playing, you can set the timeout a little longer.
Click save changes. You have created a channel and successfully converted it to an AFK channel.
Now whenever it moves someone to the AFK channel, it will show them a pop-up message that you have been moved to the AFK channel.
Last words
The AFK channel is not only useful for moving people around, but people can also manually navigate to the AFK channel so they don’t get distracted by notifications. In any case, you don’t need to install the AFK bot in Discord like you used to, Discord has a built-in option that makes things easier. What do you think of this method?
