How to Set Up a Beacon in Minecraft 2022.
In Minecraft, a beacon is a craftable block that grants nearby players powerful buffs. These power-ups can make you much stronger and more efficient, but due to the fact that beacons are very difficult to create, they are usually created late in the game.
In this tutorial, we will explain what a beacon is, how to create one, and how to use it.
What Is a Beacon?
The Lighthouse is a block that creates a vertical beam of light that players can see from a distance, acting as a guide to that location.
Each Minecraft beacon is a separate block, but they must be formed into beacon pyramids to activate. The larger the pyramid, the higher the level of the lighthouse.
The beacon can have several status effects on nearby players, similar to potions or enchantments. These include five primary forces and two secondary forces. The strength of status effects is multiplied by the level of the beacon’s pyramid.
Five core abilities:
Speed I: Increased movement speed (single-level pyramid).Haste I: Increased mining and attack speed (single-level pyramid). Jump Boost I: Increased jump height (2-tier pyramid).Resist I: Damage reduction (2-tier pyramid). Strength I: Increased melee damage (3-tier pyramid).
The two additional abilities are:
Regeneration I: Automatically regenerates health (4-tier pyramid). Increase the main strength to level II (multiplying its effect).
Since some of the required materials are difficult to obtain, players usually create beacons at the end of the game. If you’re struggling to get to the point where you can create one, our Minecraft beginner’s guide can help.
How to Find the Required Materials
To create a beacon, you will need five blocks of glass, three blocks of obsidian, and one nether star. The first two are easy to get. To get glass, add sand to the furnace. To get obsidian, you just need to find some (this happens where water meets lava) and mine it with a diamond pickaxe.
The Nether Star is one of the rarest materials in Minecraft and is a bit harder to get. To find it:
Travel to the Nether using the Nether Portal.
Collect four blocks of soul sand.
Collect three wither skeleton skulls. They have a 2.5% chance to drop from Wither Skeletons, difficult enemies found in Nether Strongholds.
In the overworld, create a “T” with soul sand and place three skulls on top.
The Wither will appear. Defeat him and he will drop a Nether Star.
Note. We’ve shown screenshots from the Java Edition, but don’t worry if you’re playing on console or Minecraft PE – the ingredients, recipe, and how to activate the beacon are the same in each.
How to Make a Beacon
When you have all the materials, making a lighthouse is not difficult. Go to your workbench and add three glass blocks to the top row. In the second row, add one glass, a nether star, and another glass. Add three blocks of obsidian to the bottom row.
The crafting recipe looks like this:
How to Activate a Beacon
The beacon itself is inactive. To activate a beacon, you must place it on top of a pyramid made up of any combination of the following materials:
Iron BlocksGold BlocksDiamond BlocksEmerald BlocksNetherite Blocks< /li>
There are four levels of the pyramid, each of which increases the beacon’s power and range:
Level 1: Base 3×3 of 9 blocks. It has a range of 20 blocks and an effect duration of 11 seconds.
Level 2: base 5×5 and top 3×3, total 34 blocks. It has a range of 30 blocks and an effect duration of 13 seconds.
Level 3: Base 7×7, middle 5×5 and top 3×3, total 83 blocks. It has a range of 40 blocks and an effect duration of 15 seconds.
Level 4: Base 9×9, second layer 7×7, third layer 5×5 and top layer 3×3, total 164 blocks. It has a range of 50 blocks and an effect duration of 17 seconds.
Once the pyramid is ready, simply place the beacon at the top center of the pyramid and it will activate.
The beacon will cast the chosen ability on all players within the beacon’s area every four seconds. This means that as long as the player stays within range, the effects remain constant. When the player leaves the area of effect, abilities continue to function until the end of the effect. Thus, the best time to get out of range is immediately after the resumption of strength (i.e. at the beginning of the next four-second cycle).
How to Use a Beacon
Once your beacon is activated, you can right-click it to access its menu and select the status effects you want to receive.
To activate the status effect, you must feed the beacon with a gold ingot, an iron ingot, a netherite ingot, a diamond, or an emerald. For this:
Add material to the open slot.
Select the power icon you want to activate.
Click on the checkmark.
The effect of an activated status can be changed at any time; you just need to feed it with another item.
To receive each buff, you must create six separate beacons. Another option is to create a pyramid of several beacons with a 10×11 base, an 8×9 second layer, a 6×7 third layer, and a 4×5 top layer.
On top of that, the beacons are placed in a 2×3 configuration in the center. This provides all six beacon effects from a single structure using the fewest resources possible.
You can customize the beacon however you want by building it from any combination of valid mineral blocks you want. You can even customize the beacon’s light color. To do this, simply place the stained glass block on top of the lighthouse.
