How to Screen Record Natively in Android 10.
There is no shortage of screen recorder apps for Android, but in a future version of Android, i.e. Android Q, you can record screen natively.
So, on March 13, 2019, Google launched its Android Q beta. If you are registered for the Android Beta program, you can get it via an OTA update. And if you’re not like me, well, you can always download and flash it on your Pixel. At first glance, there are not many changes, and the user interface is very similar to Android 9. But this is a beta version and everything will be better to come. We have a detailed article on what’s new in the Android Q beta. In this article, let’s take a look at how to embed screen recording in Android Q.
How to record screen natively in Android Q
Now inline screen recording is a feature currently undergoing testing and disabled by default. But you can still enable it and record the screen right in Android Q.
1. First go to System Preferences. To do this, open the notification panel and click the gear icon. Alternatively, you can also go to the app drawer and click the gear icon to open system settings.
2. Now we need to activate the developer options. To do this, go to the “About phone” section.
3. Under About Phone, tap Build Number 5 times to enable developer options. You will receive a tooltip that says “You are now a developer.”
4. Now that you have developer options enabled, you can access it under System Options. Go to the “System” options just above the “About phone” section.
5. Under System Settings, click Advanced to enable several options.
6. Once you get the expanded list of additional parameters. Look at the bottom of the list, you will find “Developer options”. Click on it to go to the developer options menu.
7. In the Developer Options menu, go to the Debugging section. Underneath that, you’ll have an option called Feature Flags.
8. When you go to the Feature Flag parameters, you will see a list of variables. Go to “settings_screenrecord_long_press” and enable it. This is currently a test function and may contain bugs. So, you can expect random crashes. Luckily, I didn’t come across anything.
9. After you have enabled screen recording, you can record your screen initially. To do this, press and hold the power button until you see a pop-up menu.
10. On the floating menu, tap and hold the screenshot option until a pop-up window appears on the screen. Now you can choose whether you want to Record Voiceover or Show Taps. When you press the Start Recording button, you will feel the phone vibrate for a long time, indicating that screen recording has started.
11. To stop screen recording, you can pull down the notification bar and tap Stop. The recording will be automatically saved to the gallery.
You can also pause the recording or even cancel it. It is possible to do this, in addition to the Stop button.
