How to Save Passwords in Google Chrome. Manage passwords in Chrome.
When you use Google Chrome, you have access to a built-in password manager that makes it easy to save and auto-complete passwords. It may not have the advanced features of specialized utilities like Lastpass or 1Password. But Chrome’s built-in offering still offers something so simple.
Manage passwords in Chrome.
Let’s say you’re relatively new to Chrome (or just want to know something specific about its password manager). If so, this article will show you everything you need to know about saving, editing, and deleting passwords.
Sign Into Chrome with a Google Account
Before you get started, we strongly recommend that you sign in to Chrome with a Google account (if you’re not already signed in). This prompts the browser to back up your browsing information (passwords, bookmarks, history, etc.) to Google servers in real-time, and also allows you to sync the data with your other devices.
To sign in to Chrome, select the profile icon in the upper right corner of your browser screen and select Turn on sync. Then enter your Google account credentials and select “Yes, I’m signed in.”
The default sync options are to upload your passwords (and other forms of browsing data) to the cloud. To manage Chrome sync, open your browser’s More menu (select the three dots icon) and choose Settings> Google Sync & Services> Manage Sync.
How to Save Passwords in Google Chrome
By default, Chrome automatically prompts you to save your password the first time you log into a website. In this case, select “Save”.
If you don’t see a password to save? notification shortly after logging in, click the key-shaped icon in the address bar to open it. Before saving, you can change the username or password if they are not displayed correctly.
Advice. If the usernames are different, Chrome can store multiple passwords for the same site.
Chrome is also capable of detecting account registration forms and offers strong alphanumeric passwords. Just select the password field and select Use Suggested Password. The browser should then ask you to save your login details shortly after registration is complete.
Each time you revisit the login page with a saved set of credentials, Chrome should automatically enter your username and password. If the site has multiple passwords, just select the username or password fields and you can switch between them.
How to View Passwords in Google Chrome
Chrome allows you to view your saved passwords at any time. Start by opening the More menu. Then go to Settings> Passwords to open a list of your passwords in alphabetical order.
On desktops, you can also select your Chrome profile portrait in the upper right corner of the screen and select the passwords icon to open the list.
If you see dozens of entries, you can search for a specific password by entering the website name into the search area at the top of the screen. The relevant records should be filtered as you type.
For security reasons, Chrome hides all passwords on the list. To display the password (for example, so that it can be copied to the clipboard), select the Show Password eye-shaped icon next to it.
Then you must enter the password (or PIN) of your PC or Mac account to authenticate the action. On a mobile device, just use the biometric data of the device.
On the desktop, you can also select the three-dot icon next to the entry and select Copy Password to copy the item without opening it.
How to Edit Passwords in Chrome
Each time you change the password for a website and then log in with the new password, you can select Update Password to update the entry stored in Chrome’s Password Manager. But if you don’t, you can change the password directly.
While viewing the list of Chrome passwords, click the three-dot icon next to the entry and select Change Password. On mobile devices, simply select a password and click Change.
In the pop-up window that appears, select the Username and Password fields to make changes. Then select Save.
If you’re signed into Chrome with a Google account, any changes you make should sync across all your devices.
How to Delete Passwords in Google Chrome
If you have duplicate passwords in Chrome, or just want to remove them, you can remove them.
Start by going to Settings> Passwords. Then click the three-dot icon next to the password you want to remove and select the Remove option. On mobile devices, tap Edit> Delete when viewing your password. If you want to recover the deleted password, select “Cancel Immediately”.
How to remove sites from the never-saved list
At the bottom of the Chrome password screen, you’ll find a list that says “Never Saved.” If you prevent the browser from saving the password, the corresponding website will be added to it. Thanks to this, the browser will not pester you every time you enter the site.
But if you change your mind and want to keep the password for the site, you must select the X-shaped icon next to it (or Edit> Delete on a mobile device) to remove it from the list. Then Chrome should display Save password? request the next time you enter the site.
