There are several ways to add and activate web browsers through Roku, whether you’re using a Mac or PC. The main thing to remember is that you will need some kind of computer to take full advantage of the web browser capabilities in Roku, as there is no official support.
The reason is that it is very difficult to use a web browser without a mouse and keyboard. Roku is aware of this, and the lack of Bluetooth keyboard or mouse support on Roku devices makes it nearly impossible to navigate the internet.
How to use the web browser on Roku via Screen Mirroring
If you have a Mac or iOS device, you can browse the web on your Roku by mirroring your screen. Basically, you would use your laptop or phone to navigate, search and perform other functions, but the information is displayed on your TV.
This makes it easy to show web content to other people, or just provide you with a different view while you browse. Here’s how to do it.
How To Cast To Roku From Android, PC and Mac
- Open the desired web browser.
- On a Mac, click the Command Center icon in the upper right corner of your screen. On iOS, swipe down to open the Command Center. Select Screen Mirroring.
- Select a Roku device from the list of devices that appears.
In most cases, the resolution of your laptop will change to match the resolution of your TV. This can result in smaller windows and text that is harder to read, but allows you to use much more screen space.
Unfortunately, using this method on your phone is not as effective. By default, the entire screen will be displayed vertically. You can turn the phone sideways to use it in landscape mode, but the corresponding image on your TV will be zoomed in and give you a limited field of view.
How to use the web browser on Roku through Windows 10
If you are a Windows user, you can browse the web on your Roku device by projecting the screen from your PC to the streaming card. Here’s how.

Built-In Roku Browsers
There are two officially supported “browsers”, but neither is a browser in the full sense of the word. The Roku Media Browser and Roku Reddit Browser can be accessed and added to your Roku via the feed store. However, none of them have good reviews. With an average of 2.5 stars for the media browser and 1.5 stars for the Reddit browser.
The point is, none of them have enough features to make using them easier or more useful than simply mirroring your Mac or PC screen to your Roku device. Therefore, it is not recommended to use any of the browsers. Although they may come in handy if none of the other options work.
In the past, it was possible to use other unofficial browsers such as the famous Browser X or the POPRISM browser. However, Roku has since discontinued support for these services and they can no longer be found in the Channel Store or added by any official means.
