How to Rip DVDs with WinX DVD Ripper.

Even though we switched to more efficient file formats, our collection remained unused on the shelf. I have a huge collection of DVDs that I inherited from my father because he was too sad to throw the collection away. So instead I took on the task of digitizing the files for him. Most DVDs are protected by DRM and you cannot simply copy their contents to your computer. In addition, the content of the DVD is fragmented and it is difficult to find a specific video file. We need special software for this, so I searched a couple of programs on the Internet and came across Winx DVD Ripper and we will show you how to rip DVD with WinX DVD Ripper.
Handbrake is another open source ripper I discovered, but it doesn’t support DRM protected discs and is slow to process. It was not the best choice for my huge collection due to the slower rendering speed. Its user interface is quite complex and the elderly may find it potentially intimidating. However, it is a good DVD ripping software.
WinX is proprietary software that allows you to rip DVDs to your computer in just three easy steps. It’s easy to use, the UI maintains the old theme, and the software works great as advertised.

Let’s Get Started Tool.
The first step is to download WinX DVD Ripper and it’s pretty simple, just go to this website and download WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. Comes with a free trial.
I always test apps with a trial version first because it is trustworthy and I can test the basic functionality. If the program does its job as advertised, I would happily buy the full version.
The application is available for both Windows and Mac. In this case, I’ll test the Windows version, but the layout and workflow should remain the same. The installation file is quite lightweight, just a 31MB installation file.
When finished, install the software just as you would install any regular software on your Windows PC. After that, launch it and we are ready for the next part.
Now take your favorite movies DVD and insert them into your DVD drive. We will start copying them one by one.
Place the disc in the DVD drive tray and launch the application. Not many computers these days support DVDs. If you own such a machine, you can get one of these external USB optical drives.
Click the drive button in the upper left corner (highlighted in the red box below) and it should automatically detect the files to extract.
Now select the video format you want to export the video to. There are many presets available that make it easy to convert to a range of popular video formats for specific devices such as iPad, Android phone, tablet, computers, etc. You can simply choose the one that best suits your needs. If you are not sure which format to choose, just select MP4 Video in the general profiles and click OK.
I am bilingual and most of the films in my collection have multiple audio dubs and subtitles. WinX DVD Ripper has the ability to choose your preferred language and subtitles. If you want to keep multiple takes and subtitles, you can choose that by choosing the full DVD backup format.
Where it stands out: hardware acceleration
You can also choose which resource to allocate for the process, use CPU + GPU for better performance with Hardware Accelerator. If you want the process to run in the background, you can simply allocate your GPU and continue with your email without slowing down your computer.
With this software, you can do basic editing like crop video and add subtitles. if you already have subtitles on DVD, it can detect them automatically. You can choose one or all of them in the output file. you can also crop the video as you like.
This window shows the approximate copying time of the current disc and varies from disc to disc.
The resources used by my computer were decent and it did not affect my work in any way, I used both.
Now. Depending on the length of the movie, the scratches on the DVD, and the preset you choose, you might want to wait a bit. It took about 20 minutes with some compression to create a 4.7GB standard DVD MP4, and the resulting file size was around 832MB, which is pretty decent. This can be more or less, depending on the quality you choose when copying. Higher quality will result in slower rendering and take up more space. You can dedicate a weekend to this if your collection is large.
Deinterlacing:
One very interesting feature that I didn’t notice about this software was that it allowed for video deinterlacing. Deinterlacing is a very old technique used by cable companies to deliver high frame rate video in a narrow bandwidth. This was achieved through interlacing, more commonly known as the comb effect. It splits one frame into two and projects half of the frame with odd numbered lines followed by even numbered lines. This effect was popular until LCDs and LED TVs became the norm and interlaced scanning was useless. How can this help you? Maybe you have a Super Bowl record a few years ago. In fact, you can just check the deinterlacing checkbox and your video will be stitched and converted.
What we like
WinX DVD Ripper is pretty easy to use and most of you will have no problem digitizing your collection after reading this article. The best feature of this software is resource efficient use. If your DVD collection is new and barely scratched, it will get the job done quickly. However, some of my disks were heavily used and I didn’t expect them to work, but as long as the hardware could read the disk, WinX had no problem converting the file. However, the transformation took forever. We can keep this in mind when prioritizing DVDs.
Another great feature is the hardware accelerator, you can choose between a processor, a graphics card, or both. Which makes sense, if I want a process to run in the background, I can only select my graphics card and do other work without allocating my processor for that.
Where failed
Let’s say you have a movie and the image quality is a little low and you want to fix the brightness and contrast, but unfortunately you are not able to use this software. you can’t customize movie encoding or add watermarks to your personal videos, but that’s about it.
Pricing: WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is a paid software that also comes with a free trial. I chose the free trial, but it didn’t allow copying files longer than 5 minutes. They have a promotional discount on their websites for a few days where you can win a 6 month license for free, visit the website for more information. A lifetime membership license is also available at a discounted price of about $ 30, which is a lot.
Wrapper: WinX DVD Ripper
I went through WinX DVD Ripper Platinum to digitize a couple of DVDs that were pretty scratched. It does the job well and digitizes files efficiently, although it takes longer than fresh DVDs. Hardware Accelerator, the most touted feature of this software, works well as promised using both CPU and GPU and dramatically reduces the time for the entire process. Copying and distribution are not protected by copyright laws and you can check them first. We do not support illegal distribution of copyrighted content. However, if you want to use it for personal use, you can also copy those files.
