How to Rid the Google Chrome Pop-up Virus on Android.

Google Chrome Pop-up Virus is a common and nasty malware on Android phones. The most common cause of this virus is downloading applications from third-party or unknown sources that contain malware. The most important thing is NOT to click on the popup!

If your phone is infected, it’s not the end of the world. There are several ways to remove pop-up viruses from your Android device, and we’ll start with the most appropriate one – uninstalling any apps you don’t trust in Safe Mode.

Delete Suspicious Apps in Android

The first step to getting rid of Google Chrome virus on your Android device is to remove permissions from suspicious apps before restarting your phone in Safe Mode. This will prevent problems when you restart your phone.

Click Settings, then Biometrics & Security.

Scroll down and open Other Security Settings.

Click Device Administration Applications.

Remove permission for any suspicious applications by clicking the radio button.

Restart in Safe Mode

Press and hold the Power button until the Power menu opens.

Press and hold the Shutdown button until the Safe Mode screen appears.

Remove suspicious applications

Open Settings.
Select “Applications” and look for any suspicious applications.

Note. The most likely cause of this virus is applications obtained from third party sources and not from the Play Store. Look for apps you don’t remember or apps with suspicious names. Also watch out for applications that do not have a name that are trying to “hide”.

If you find a suspicious application, select it and click Remove.
Click OK.

Restart your phone normally and check if a pop-up virus appears.

Note. Be sure to loop through all your apps a few times (especially if you have multiple app pages) and remove anything suspicious that might be causing the malware.

Enable Play Protect

Play Protect is part of the Play Store and will scan your app when you install a new one to check for malware. It will also periodically scan your device for potentially malicious third-party applications.

Open the Play Store.
Tap the User icon (the letter in the upper right corner of the screen).
Select Play Protect and check if it is enabled.

If not, select Settings (the gear in the upper right corner of the screen) and select Scan Apps with Play Protect.
Once enabled, navigate back to Play Protect and select Scan.
Wait for the scan to complete and take all recommended actions immediately.

Turn Off Pop-ups in Chrome

Another way to prevent pop-ups from appearing is to disable pop-ups and redirects in Google Chrome.

Open Google Chrome and create a new page.
Click More (three dots in the upper right corner of the screen).

Click Popups and Redirects and disable them.

Reset Google Chrome

If none of the above helps, try resetting Google Chrome to its original settings. This will delete the Chrome cache, cookies, site settings, and any other stored data.

Open Settings and select Applications.

Scroll down and click Chrome.

Select “Storage”.

Select Clear All Data and click OK.

Use an Antivirus

Open the Play Store and search for “Malwarebytes”.
Select an application, then click Install.

Click Open.
Complete the configuration process and select Allow and then Allow.

Select Skip in the upper right corner.
Select Scan Now and wait for the process to complete.

When the scan completes, Malwarebytes will present you with a screen displaying the malware you have infected (if found).
Select “Remove Selected” to remove them immediately.

Perform a Factory Reset on your Phone

If none of the above steps removed the malware from your Android device, you may need to perform a factory reset. This is how you will get your phone back to its original state. Before following these steps, you need to back up your phone’s internal storage.

Click Settings.
Select General Management, then click Reset.

Select Factory Data Reset.

Scroll down and select Reset.
Enter a security PIN or pattern.
Select Delete All.
Wait for the process to complete, then restore the data on your phone.

Watch What You Install
