Since I work in the IT department, I have a lot of technical support questions like how to unfreeze or restart an iPod! I’m not sure why so many people have been asking me this lately, but since they are asking the question, I thought I would write a small post on how to reset your iPod if it freezes!
Of course, telling how to reset an iPod Nano might work for some, but not for those with an iPod Touch, so I’ll try to list the instructions for as many people as possible! Like this! It should also be noted that if the reset procedure does not work, you can also try plugging the device into a power source and then try again.
Unfreeze or reset iPod Touch
The iPod Touch is pretty simple. The iPod Touch only has two buttons, so it’s really hard to screw it up. To reset iPod Touch, press and hold the Sleep / Wake button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen:
Note that you may first see the Slide to Turn Off â€appears on the screen, but this is normal. Continue to hold down the two buttons, and the iPod Touch will turn off completely. Then just press the Sleep / Wake button again for a few seconds to turn it on again.
It should also be noted that this is the same procedure as for resetting iPhone or iPad.
Unfreeze or reset your iPod Classic
1. Turn the lock switch on and off. (Slide it to the “Hold” position, then turn it off again.)
2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which can take 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Notes:
- If you are having trouble resetting your iPod, place it on a flat surface. Then make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the steering wheel. Also make sure you press the Menu button towards the outside of the control wheel, not towards the center.
- If the above steps don’t work, you can try connecting your iPod to the power adapter. and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet or connect your iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and not put into sleep mode.
Reset iPod Nano (6th & 7th generation)
For newer iPod Nano models, the process is slightly different. Let’s start with the 6th Generation iPod Nano, which is shown below:
To restart the 6th generation iPod Nano, you must simultaneously hold the Sleep / Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least 8 seconds. For the 7th generation iPod Nano shown below, you need to press the Sleep / Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes black.
Reset iPod Nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation)
Resetting iPod Nano is the same as for iPod Classic:
1. Turn the lock switch on and off. (Slide it to the “Hold” position, then turn it off again.)
2. Now press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, which can take 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step several times.
You can also reset your iPod Mini in the same way as described above.
Reset or unfreeze iPod Shuffle
There are 4 generations of iPod Shuffle models, so refer to the table above to see the switch you need to move. Here are the steps:
1. First, eject iPod shuffle from iTunes, if connected.
2. Then remove iPod shuffle from the USB dock.
3. Slide the switch on the top or side of iPod shuffle to the off position. You know that you are off when you don’t see the green bar.
4. Wait 5 seconds. If you have a 3rd or 4th generation iPod Shuffle, wait 10 seconds.
5. Return the switch to the on position so that the green bar is visible in any position.
And it’s all! Hopefully now that you know these steps, you don’t have to constantly remove your battery to defrost your iPod! Please write any comments or questions below! Enjoy!
