How to Reset Oculus Quest 2

How to Reset Oculus Quest 2.

Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone VR headset based on the Android 10 operating system. While it works flawlessly most of the time, you may experience crashes or the headset itself may freeze. This happens more often if you’re downloading content from App Lab to try out games that haven’t been fully released yet.

The good news is that there’s a way to reset your VR headset if it’s frozen, and a way to factory reset the entire device if something goes wrong. Please note that a factory reset will remove all saved files from the device and restore it to its original state, but you will not lose any purchases. Of course, you can always re-download games to your account.

How to Soft Reset the Quest 2

For minor glitches and software issues, you don’t need to do a factory reset. Instead, just try a soft reset. There are two ways to do this.

First simple one:

Put on your headset. Then press and hold the power button on the right side until the shutdown screen appears.Select Restart.

This will reboot the headset and may fix many minor bugs. However, if you can’t restart your headset or it’s stuck, there is another way.

Press and hold the power button on the right side of the headset for at least 10 seconds. The headset will then turn off.Wait at least 30 seconds, but no more than a minute, and then press and hold the power button until the headset turns back on.

Both of these methods will gently reload Quest 2.

How to Factory Reset Oculus Quest 2

If a soft reset doesn’t fix the issue, you may need to factory reset your Oculus Quest 2 headset. This returns it to factory settings; In other words, in the same condition it was in when you took it out of the box. All downloaded games, saved data and account information will be deleted.

If possible, take the time to sync your quest to your online account before taking this step. If you do this, your photos will be saved to your Oculus account so you can restore them later.

There are two ways to perform a hard reset: through the Oculus app or on the headset itself.

How to reset Quest 2 through the app

The Quest is available with an Android app and an Apple iPhone app. Despite the name change to Meta, the phone app is still called Oculus. If your Oculus appears as a registered device, you can easily perform a factory reset via the mobile app, but please note that if your headset is malfunctioning, this may not work.

Open the Oculus app. Tap Menu > Devices. If you have multiple Oculus devices synced with your app, select the one you want to reset and tap Advanced Settings.

Click Factory Reset.A warning screen will appear telling you that Oculus will delete all information stored on your headset. If you are sure you want to reset, click Reset.

After you start the process, the headset will automatically complete it. Just wait until the process is complete and then you can go through the setup process on your Quest 2 again.

How to factory reset your Quest 2 using your headset

If your Quest can’t connect to the app, or you can’t use your phone for another reason, you can still reset via your headset.

Note on screenshots below: It is not possible to take screenshots of Oculus Quest 2 while on the loading screen. These screenshots are taken by Oculus and show what the screen will look like, but it may look different if you make it yourself.

Turn off your Quest 2 headset. Press and hold the power and volume down buttons until the headset opens in the boot menu. You can use the volume buttons to navigate this menu. Pressing the power button will select the option. The following options were displayed during testing: Boot deviceDevice informationFactory resetSideboot updatePower off

Select Reset Settings and press the Power button.

If you want to continue, select Yes, erase and restore factory settings.

After that, the factory reset will continue. Once complete, it will boot up and you can set up again – hopefully this time without a hitch – or get Quest 2 ready for sale.

That’s all there is to reset Quest 2. If these repairs still don’t solve your problems, consider contacting Oculus Support. The problem may lie in the hardware and you may need to repair Quest.
