If you take photos with any of the available modern devices, it is likely that the device also adds additional information to those photos as it captures and saves them.
This additional information, called EXIF ??data, usually includes the camera model, the date the photo was taken, your geolocation information, and so on. Some applications on your devices use this additional information to help you organize your photos.
While there is nothing wrong with keeping EXIF ??data embedded in your photos while it is stored on your personal devices, there are times when you might want to delete the data, such as when you post those photos online.
Fortunately, most devices allow you to easily remove EXIF ??data from photos.

Windows users can easily as they have both built-in and third-party method to delete EXIF ??data of photos. Both options are easy to use, and below shows how to access and use them.
Using the built-in parameter
A built-in option is found in Windows Explorer on your PC and allows you to view as well as delete photo metadata.

- Open the folder with the photos from which you want to remove EXIF ??data. When the folder opens, right-click on the photo you want to delete EXIF ??data on and select Properties.
- When the properties window opens, click on the tab labeled Details. You will see the EXIF ??data of the photo you selected. To get rid of this data, at the bottom you will find the link Delete properties and personal information. Click on it.
- On the next screen, you will find two options for deleting EXIF ??data. If you choose the first option, all possible metadata will be removed from your photos. The second option allows you to selectively remove EXIF ??data.

Depending on the option you selected above, all or some of your photo data will be deleted on your computer.

- It will remove EXIF ??data from your selected photos and replace the original images with new versions.
- If you want to make sure your photos really don’t have embedded EXIF ??data, you can do so using the Preview app on the Mac. Open your photos in the View app, click Tools at the top, and select Show Inspector.
You will notice that the app does not display information about your photos in its panel. This confirms that ImageOptim has indeed removed all EXIF ??data from your images.

- Select the photos from which you want to remove EXIF ??data and then click on the Exif option in the upper right corner. Check the box at the top to select all options and click the floppy disk icon.

- Launch the app, select your photos, click the settings icon in the lower left corner, and select Clear All Metadata.
The app will add new versions of your photos to your device without metadata. You will find these new versions in the Photos app on your device.

If you want your future photos not to include location data, you can turn off location data on your Android device.
- Launch the Camera app on your device and tap on the Settings option.
- On the next screen, turn off Store location data.
- Everything is ready. The photos you take from now on with your Android device will not include your location data.

You can also disable the iOS camera app from recording your location in photos. Here’s how to access and disable the Sharing feature on your iOS device.
- Launch the Settings app and click Privacy and then Geolocation Services.
- Select Camera and select Never. on the next screen.
The Camera app will not be able to use your location data, and as a result, your photos will not have geodata embedded on your iPhone or iPad.
