How to Remap Netflix Buttons on NVIDIA Shield TV 2019.
NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 comes with a redesigned remote that has features such as backlight buttons, IrDA volume controls, and a dedicated Netflix button that, when pressed, opens the Netflix app on the TV. This command is hardcoded into the remote and we can’t just replace it with something, at least not without a third party app. In this article, I will show you how to remap Netflix buttons to open other apps. Let’s start.
Before we start
In case you haven’t noticed, the Shield TV 2019 remote already has one customizable button; the quick settings button. The settings panel is displayed by default, but you can change it to whatever you want. You can even customize it to open apps like YouTube, Chrome, etc.
Step 1. Start by opening the settings page, click the gear icon in the upper right corner next to the clock.
Step 2. Go to the Remote and Accessories section in the General Settings section.
Step 3. You will find the “Customize Settings” button, click to open it.
Step 4: On this page, you can choose what the button should do. For example, you can mute the sound, take a screenshot, or open an app. Select “Open Application” if you want to assign an application to a button.
Step 5. Select the desired application and you’re done. Now the button will open the app every time you click the button.
Assign any button on the Shield TV remote control
The above method works flawlessly, but has one small problem: you can only assign different actions to one button. To be honest, I don’t even watch Netflix that often, and I would love to swap it for something else. The easiest way to achieve this is to install the Button mapper app. The app is available in the Play Store and you can simply ask the Assistant to install it for you.
Step 1. Install and open the app from the Play Store.
2: Before assigning actions to the Shield TV remote control buttons, we need to enable accessibility service, which will allow us to override existing commands. Open “Settings” and go to “Device Settings”.
 3. Scroll down and select the Accessibility option from the list.
4: You will find Button Mapper, select this option and toggle the Enable radio button next to it.
Now go back to the Button Mapper app, here you will find a list of buttons that you can assign actions to. You will see a Home button, a Back button and even volume buttons. However, the Netflix button is not recognized by the app, so we’ll add it to the list manually.
5: Select Add Buttons.
6: The app will now ask you to add a button, press the Netflix button or any button you want to customize.
7. Now that the button is assigned, just turn on the “Configure” toggle switch and assign an action. You can choose between three different triggers; single touch, double touch and long press. This means that three different actions can be assigned to the same buttons.
That’s all you need to do to customize the remote control buttons on your Shield TV 2019. It does come with a drawback, however. It does not block the existing action assigned to the button, but instead overlays a custom action. For example, if you configured the Netflix button on your Shield TV remote using Plex or YouTube, it would still open Netflix when you press the button, but right after that it will also open the configured action so you won’t even notice It.
Remap remote control buttons to NVIDIA Shield TV, Pro and Tube?
Although the first method is fine if you want to configure one button on the remote. however, the Button mapper app gives you the ability to customize each button on the remote in three different ways. In theory, you can assign 48 different actions to all of the buttons on the remote, which is overkill.
