Want to record yourself on video online? For some strange reason, many people still record simple videos with camcorders, transfer them to their computer, and then upload them to the Internet. This is perfectly understandable if you are shooting a project, film, etc. and using an HD camera for that, but if you just need to record how you talk about something, for most people this is a bit overkill.
You can always use your smartphone to record a video and upload it, but a webcam may be preferable due to better resolution, lighting, upload speed, etc. Thankfully, there is a really easy way to record yourself online using your own webcams and share it with the world. I assume most people use YouTube to download videos, but I will try to list some alternatives for those of you who don’t.
YouTube Webcam Capture
The easiest way to record your video online is to use the YouTube webcam capture feature. Just go to the YouTube download page and you will see many options for YouTube video download.
Click the Record button below the webcam capture and you will be taken to another page where you can click the Start Recording button to start recording your selfie video.
When you click this button, a pop-up window appears asking if you want YouTube to have access to your camera and microphone. Click the Allow radio button and check the Remember box. Depending on your OS and browser, you may receive a different pop-up message from the browser itself asking you if you want to allow or deny access to your camera. In Chrome, for me it appeared at the very top of the site. As soon as I clicked on it, the recording started.
When you’re done, click the Stop Recording button. You will now have the option to start over or upload the video to YouTube. That’s it for recording videos with your webcam and uploading them to YouTube.
In terms of entertainment, YouTube doesn’t give you many options when recording videos. If you want to add some special effects to your videos without the hassle of video editing and more, please visit another site called Fotofriend
Fotofriend Video Effects
I liked using Fotofriend because it has a lot of cool video effects that you can use in real time when recording video. First, allow access to your webcam and microphone, after which you will automatically see a grid of four effects from which you can choose. You can also click on the left and right arrows to see more effects. There are about 56 different video effects in them.
Once you select an effect, it will load the screen with that effect and a couple of options. For some strange reason, you can choose the recording length of only 10 seconds, 30 seconds, or 3 minutes. Where they got these values ??from, I have no idea. You can also switch it to high quality if your webcam is HD.
When you finish recording, you can play it back or click the New Video button to delete the current video and record again. If you like the video, just click the “Save Video†button and you can download it directly to your hard drive as an FLV file. Then, you can upload this FLV file to YouTube without the need to convert or modify the file.
There are several other sites you can use to record videos online, but for 99% of people, these two options will work. I really couldn’t find any other site that has good video effects like Fotofriend, so if you know one, post it in the comments. Enjoy!
