How to Record Gameplay on PS4.
The Sony PlayStation 4 has undergone significant improvements over the previous generation and you can now record your gameplay without the need for additional hardware. To be fair, PS4 gameplay recording is really intuitive, but you still need to set it up first. In addition, we will discover some interesting features, so let’s take a look at how to record gameplay on PS4.
Record a video
PS4 natively supports screen recording up to 720p on PS4 and 1080p on PS4 pro, which can be shared with others via social media or copied to a USB stick. Unlike taking screenshots on PS4, the shortcut keys for video recording are fixed, and you can start recording by pressing the SHARE button on your PS4 controller twice and end recording by pressing the SHARE button twice. Gameplay is recorded and saved in the capture gallery, where you can share, crop and delete the file.
What if I forgot to record the gameplay?
PS4 allows you to save video clips even if you didn’t originally record them. The PS4 will automatically continue recording your gameplay until you press the record button or start a new gameplay. The clip is not actually saved to the hard drive and is constantly being overwritten with new frames of your latest gameplay.
To save your auto-recorded gameplay, you just need to open the Share display menu by pressing the SHARE button on your PS4 controller. Press the square button on the controller to save the clip to the capture gallery.
Adjust the length of the video clip
PS4 lets you record up to 60 minutes of video footage while playing and save it to your PS4. Sometimes you may not want an hour of footage, so you can limit the recording time from 30 seconds to 60 minutes. However, if you need to record for longer, you can stream live on Twitch or YouTube; and set auto archive for your account. This will save your entire stream when you stop streaming.

Alternatively, you can use a capture card to capture 1080p footage from a regular PS4. Some of these capture cards can shoot up to 60fps (at 720p), considering if the game can hit 60fps.
To adjust the length of a video clip, go to the Sharing & Streaming section, select “Video Clip Length” and set a time limit.
Add your comment in the videos
The PS4 has a brand new controller and you can connect your wired headset directly to your PS4 controller and chat with your partner. If you are shooting video, you can include microphone sound in video clips while recording. This will allow you to play and comment at the same time and save a lot of time.
To enable microphone audio in recorded video clips, go to Sharing and Streaming Settings and select Audio Sharing Settings. Select the check box next to Include microphone audio in video clips.
Trim video clips
Now that you’ve captured a video, chances are that you’ve also captured some extra footage that you don’t necessarily need. You can trim video clips right in the capture gallery without worrying about running out of console space.
To trim a video clip, go to the capture gallery and select the clip you want to trim. Press the Options button on the controller to open the list of options. Select Crop from the options on the right.
It will load the editor and show you the following screen. You can trim your video clip in 3 easy steps. Select the starting point, set the ending point and press OK.
To trim your video clip accurately, you can divide the time slots into shorter chunks, such as 1 second. This makes it easy to select the start and end points.
To select a starting point, simply scroll through the timeline using the arrow keys. Click the X on the frame where you want to start. You can do the same to set the endpoint. Then press the OK button on the screen to confirm your choice.

You will see a warning screen prompting you to trim the original file or create a new trimmed copy. Choose any of the options to create the cut video clip. The Overwrite option deletes the original file, and the Save as New Copy option creates a new trimmed video clip and saves it to the Capture Gallery.
Save videos to a USB drive
You can copy screenshots taken on PS4 to USB stick. First, go to the snapshot gallery and press the options button on your PS4. It will show you a list of actions, select “copy to USB drive”.
All of your files will be copied to the flash drive, and you can remove the drive and transfer the files to your computer or smartphone.
Share video clips
You don’t need to copy the files to your USB stick, you can also share the files to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and more directly from the app. This saves a lot of time and unnecessary steps.
To share a video, go to the photo gallery and select your video. Press and hold the SHARE button on your controller to load a video clip.
You will be prompted to select a channel on the social network. Select the appropriate channel and press X to continue.
You can add a comment, play the clip to make sure it’s ready, and if that requires additional trimming, the button is right there so you can do it easily. Click the Share button to post your video to the web.

It was a quick way to record video clips on PS4. The feature is intuitive, and you can tweak settings like video clip length, keyboard shortcuts, and more. I really liked the auto-recording feature, which always stores the latest gameplay video in cache, allowing you to capture spontaneous moments without any problem.
